TALK ABOUT A SURREAL DAY.
Yesterday was one of those days where you found yourself scratching your head over and over again and saying "WTF?". First we got word about the passing of FARRAH FAWCETT, the 70's icon best known for her roles in "Charlie's Angels" and "The Burning Bed". She was the heartthrob of many a young male back then, her posters hanging on walls all over the world. She had been battling cancer for a long while, so while her death was expected, it was sad to see nevertheless.
Things took a turn towards the bizarre later in the day when word got out that 80's pop icon MICHAEL JACKSON had been taken to the hospital for cardiac arrest. By the time I'd gotten to the bar to prepare for the night shift, news reports began reporting his death, shocking everyone in the bar. The reactions of his passing was mixed. While everyone seemed to agree that he was a one-of-a-kind musical phenomenon, there were those who had negative reactions about him because of his recent troubles. It was interesting to hear the discussions about him, both positive and negative, as it is rare that you have a person evoke so much reaction.
Interestingly enough, now that he's passed, all of the music video channels are playing his videos ad nausm. In watching those videos, I can't help but to notice how dated and cheesy those videos were now but remembering how popular they were back then. Music videos were clunky back then and he helped make the music video into an visual event, transforming them to what we are used to seeing today. Say what you will about M.J., he was and will forever be a musical icon.
While everyone was wrapping their heads around the stunning loss of these two celebs, life still goes on. We had our SIXPOINT CRAFT ALE tasting party, featuring SIXPOINT BENGALI TIGER IPA, SIXPOINT APOLLO and the resident brand, SIXPOINT SWEET ACTION Ale. We had patrons sample each and vote on which one they liked the best. When all was said and done, SIXPOINT APOLLO was the big winner and as a result, we will look to bring it on tap shortly.
As the night went on, the freaks began to emerge from the streets. Lots of drunken idiots; Quite a few hookups; a couple who clearly had "swinging" on their minds, approaching women and men all night proposing that they go to a "swing club" to see what it's like (very weird); quite a few instances of amateurs not being able to hold their liquor and puking all over the place (I mean projectile puking). It was one of those nights. Then there were these two guys (we'll call them "Tweedle Dee" and "Tweedle Dumb") who showed us what class is all about.
Tweedle Dee goes up to the bartender and asks for the cheapest beer we got. So the bartender suggested PBR cans ($3). The guy orders two and gives her money to pay for them. The bartender returns with the beer and change and hands them to the guy. Tweedle Dee and Dumb look at one another and then demands that they get free shots. Bartender looks at them and the one dollar tip that they left her and she says no. Tweedle Dee and Dumb look at each other, take back the one dollar tip and walk away. Real class.
It was one of those nights that seemed like would never end. Ugh. Bring on the weekend.
