THE HEAT IS ON
After what is considered one of the coolest summers in recent history, the weather gods have finally decided to turn up the heat. We began experiencing the humid sticky weather over the weekend and now we're finally scheduled to hit our first 90 degree day today. Not looking forward to it. Gotta check on the AC and make sure it's up to snuff as it is DOLLAR DRAFT Tuesday, always a busy night. There's nothing worse than dealing with a night of thirsty interns and hipsters on a hot summer night.
Other than that, I find myself feeling a bit ragged as it's been a long seven days. Staying indoors today and taking care of a few things.
BEER BINGO had a pretty good crowd, though I had a bit of a problem with the AC; Gotta get it cleaned today if we're going to survive tonight. One quick story about the night. Towards the end of the evening, as the crowd thinned out I began playing some mellow stuff on the IPOD. Nothing crazy, some Dave Matthews Band, Jack Johnson, etc. There was a small group of three older adults, probably tourists and definitely a group that skewed higher than our usual age range for a Monday night, hanging out in the back of the bar.
At one point I throw on an oldie but goodie from The Commodores and next thing you know, one of the ladies of the group, an older Caucasian woman saunters over to me and says "Ooh I LOVE The Commodores! Young folks don't make stuff like this anymore". I smile and turn back to the IPOD, searching for the next song to play. She shuffles off and began doing a mock slow dance by herself. I shake my head and go back to the IPOD. She comes back over and makes a request for some Isley Brothers slowjam called "Choosy Lover". What????! What have I started?
Now anybody making a request for "Choosy Lover" is only looking for one thing: some choosy lovin'! And while I like the Isley Brothers just as much as the next guy, I wasn't going to be the one giving up some "Choosy Lovin'"! So what do I do? I did what anyone in my position would do:
Threw on some Lou Reed. The group left soon after. Mission accomplished.
AND FINALLY: A follow-up to yesterday's story about the LAKE PLACID IRONMAN. Here's a interesting blog post from a participant's point of view. Good stuff!
Stay cool New York and see you tonight!
DOLLAR DRAFT MADNESS ($1.00 Bud/Bud Light mugs all night long).
