ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL??

Six months after the end of the Super Bowl, we FINALLY find ourselves back in a familiar setting: NFL Football time! With tonight's matchup between the defending Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers facing off against the Tennessee Titans, we kick off a much-anticipated 2009-2010 NFL season.

Hardcore football fans, fantasy football pundits, and the casual fan have been looking forward to this day for a long time and I gotta admit, I'm getting goosebumps thinking about it myself. Say what you will about "America's Pastime" (baseball), there's simply nothing like the NFL. The weekly rituals that lead up to the big game each week is simply tradition at its best. Sure the other sports leagues have their share of intrigue and popularity, but the long season and numerous games tend to water down the importance level of the games themselves.

With football, however, you concentrate on one game per week. That's it. There's something to be said with having each game meaning something. The relatively short season (16 games in 17 weeks) and the impact of each game determining your team's fate contributes to the popularity of the sport. That allows both the hardcore fan as well as the casual observer to follow along, which also adds to the popularity of the sport. As a fan of the CLEVELAND BROWNS, I'm not expecting great things from my team this season, but it doesn't stop me from looking forward towards Opening Night. Most importantly, the NFL Opening Night (in my eyes), is the official kickoff to the Fall season. So long, Summer!

Tonight's matchup will also bring bodies back to the bar after the Labor Day Hangover, which I'm sure all of the bars in the city are looking forward to. I know that I am looking forward to that.

PRE-GAME: 8pm. KICKOFF: 8:20pm

TONIGHT: "Thirsty Thursdays" featuring Miller Lite/Coors Light buckets (5/$20) and $4 Sam Adams/Coors Light drafts (5-11pm). There's also a cool SAM ADAMS promo (8-10pm), featuring 22 oz STEINS of Sam Adams ($7), with $5 refills and YOU KEEP THE STEIN! Not a bad deal!

Get your popcorn ready! It's time for some FOOTBALL!

Thank goodness football is back! But then they had to schedule the Packers for the first Sunday night game (bummer). Guess who had to take Monday off?

Start of the NFL season, all that hype, and a 13-10 game in overtime. Kind of disappointing.
