A DAY OF POWER SHIFTS, PARTY PEOPLE.... AND JOSH DUHAMEL???

Yesterday's edition of BREW CREW SUNDAY was a festive affair, filled with great games and the usual dose of debauchery that typically comes with our Sunday afternoons. Highlights of the day include the following:

I think we're beginning to see the changing of the guard in the NFL as the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers both suffered embarrassing losses again and now find themselves in danger of possibly missing the playoffs. The New England Patriots lost consecutive games for the first time since god-knows-when and the swagger has clearly disappeared from this team, especially its defense. Tom Brady looks mortal these days and the Belichick mystique is no longer feared.

The Pittsburgh Steelers, on the other hand, has become a tale of two teams: A much feared team when Troy Polamalu is in the line-up and a patsy of a team when he's out. This is evidenced by their recent losses to bottom-feeder teams Kansas City and now Oakland during a four-game losing streak. Both teams, once feared, are no longer in that category and with the rising of teams like New Orleans, Minnesota, Arizona and of course, Indianapolis, nothing last forever, including dynasties.

THE DOLFANS of Miami found reason to celebrate as their dwindling playoff hopes got a major boost with their win over the fading N.E. Patriots, much to the chagrin of the other bar patrons. The addition of the DOLFANS to the bar has been a mixed blessing as the season unfolds. While their enthusiasm for their team is admirable and brings life to the bar each week, the snarky attitude from a few "bad apples" of the group often brings out negative feelings from the long-time regulars who don't appreciate the crass behavior on their turf. Examples include demanding all of the TV's for themselves, snotty attitudes towards the bartending staff, non-tipping, leaving garbage all over the place, etc.

Again, overall, the DOLFANS have been a great addition to the bar, however, there's always a few bad apples within every group and this group is no exception. The hard part is striking the balance to keep everyone happy.

During the second half of the afternoon, while the NY Giants were taking it to the Dallas Cowboys and the Sunday Brew Crew were in full-blown party mode, a mysterious face made his way into the bar and took a seat in the back. As it turned out, it was JOSH DUHAMEL (of "Transformers" and "Las Vegas" fame; also husband of Black-Eyed Peas singer, FERGIE). He's been in town filming a movie ("The Romantics") with KATIE HOLMES. Turns out he's a big fan of the Minnesota Vikings and was there to catch the game with friends of our own BABY GIRL. He was very down to earth and no one bothered him, though there were plenty of females trying to sneak a glance at him (he's a pretty tall dude).
He left after the first half of the Vikings/Cardinals game the same way he came in: very unassuming.

It's amazing what alcohol does for a conversation. I was sitting at the bar at the end of my shift, trying to do some work on the computer and catching up with some of the patrons when I couldn't help but to overhear some of the conversations of some clearly-inebriated patrons nearby. Some of the coversation went from job-related advice to body-image issues to body-parts in general and it kept sliding down that slippery slope to god-knows-when. Now these folks apparently didn't realize how loud they were talking but it was loud enough to make me pause in mid-sentence a few times. Oy vey. If these folks could only hear snippets of themselves the next day.

Overall, it was another busy, successful day at the bar; one where everyone seemed to have a great time. We're approaching crunch time in the football season and many of the playoff spots will go down to the last few weeks before being claimed, which is great for business. Looking forward to that. In the meantime, I'm going to finally pick up a new camera as it's been too long since I've posted pics on this page.

Monday Night Football and Dollar Mugs tonight. Mugs start at 4pm, while the game (Baltimore vs Green Bay) kicks off at around 8pm.

AND FINALLY: TIGERGATE continues to run full steam ahead with the number of mistresses approaching the same number as the burgers sold at McDonald's. That being said, T-BILL hit me with this HYSTERICAL you tube video of the infamous voice mail he left on one of the mistresses' cell phone:

That's It. That's All I Got.
