SIGNS OF SPRING???

After a week where Mother Nature reared her ugly head and blasted the city with a real snowstorm, it looks as if she's going to make up for it by blessing us with a beautiful weekend! My favorite weathergirl, HEIDI JONES is predicting temps in the 50's for today, and low to mid-60's for the rest of the weekend! What more could you ask for?

Last night was a rare night off, so I laid low and watched "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" again, staring Seth Rogan; Hilarious stuff.

Also, JUST A REMINDER: Turn your clocks ahead one hour on Saturday night! Another sign that Spring is almost here!

We have a lot going on this weekend; Aside from NCAA Championship Week kicking into high gear, we're also hosting UFC 96: JACKSON vs JARDINE on Saturday night. No cover charge for the event but make sure you get there early! And if you are a member of our Facebook group, make sure you sign up for our special deal for this event! Word of advice: Get there early as we will fill up quickly!

For the most up-to-date schedule of events at the bar, make sure you check our WEBSITE!

Enjoy the weekend and hope to see you around! And don't forget to check out our new bar game, BEER BINGO MONDAYS, beginning this Monday at 8pm! Lots of fun prizes to be won so stop by and try it out!

ALSO NOTE: Big East Tournament begins March 10-14!

DID ANYONE HAPPEN TO NOTICE.....

That AMERICA'S TEAM (a.k.a. the CLEVELAND CAVALIERS) was the first team to clinch a playoff berth in this year's playoffs? Read it and weep, KNICKS fans. You'll not be getting the KING in your camp anytime soon, you can take that to the bank! Better start looking into Plan B...

CAVS CLINCH PLAYOFF BERTH...

Catch the Cavs vs the Boston Celtics on Friday night on ESPN.

THE RETURN OF GOLDIE

Last night was the return of Pub Trivia and the crowd was as enthusiastic as ever. We also got some visitors from some other bars in the area, interested in seeing how our Pub Trivia works and I think they walked away impressed.

We also saw the return of one of the original members of the SUNDAY BREW CREW, our dear friend GOLDIE.

When he moved away from the area, he was a single man who just gotten engaged and a new job. Now happily married and a proud papa, he made the rounds while on business in NYC. He shared with us his stories of parenthood and how he's had to make the adjustments of life with a newborn. While he looked understandably tired, he was definitely a happy man. Good for you GOLDIE and congrats again! It was great seeing you!

TONIGHT: "Bucket o'Lights" Night (5-10pm), featuring $15.00 buckets of Coors Light, Michelob Light or Miller Lite! RANGERS vs ISLANDERS (7pm)!

HUMP DAY BLUES....

It's Wednesday and yours truly found himself up earlier than usual, this time to meet up with our TV technician. The project of the day? Installing new Direct TV boxes. Well, actually replacing some older boxes that was causing us to lose channels from time to time. Now these guys are pretty good at what they do, however, pinning them down for an actual appointment is akin to finding a needle in a haystack. Nearly impossible. So when I was told that they would make an early morning appearance to take care of the boxes, I was up extra early to make sure that I didn't miss them. And as advertised, they showed up on time and got the job done (hence the late post). So that's one big headache out of the way, just in time for March Madness!

Next on the agenda: Set up for tonight's Wednesday Night Pub Trivia.

THIS AFTERNOON: More Premier League action, highlighted by MANCHESTER CITY vs ASTON VILLA (2:30pm). It's also NHL Trade Deadline Day for you hardcore hockey fans, so I'll have one TV dedicated to the NHL Network to follow the trading frenzy (expect the NY Rangers to make some moves).

Don't forget "Drinkin' with Lincoln" (2 Miller High Life bottles/$5.00 daily from 12-4pm)

TONIGHT: Wednesday Night Pub Trivia (8pm). This week's Theme: European History

More updates later!

THE PERFECT STORM....

Yesterday's blast of winter served as a wake-up call that while spring was quickly approaching, we still have to respect "The Hawk" and the power it possesses. The snowstorm was strong enough that NYC closed its public schools for the first time in five years. FIVE YEARS! While NYC tends to be overdramatic when it comes to snow, it NEVER closes its public schools. So for this to happen made big news locally. The streets were relatively empty as many folks chose to stay home instead of braving the elements and going to work. Even with all of that, there were still a nice group of diehard faithful who braved the elements to enjoy "Recession Mondays" at the bar, and they were rewarded with $2.00 Domestic Draft mugs and $1.00 Bud/Bud Lights for their efforts.

That being said, as much as I make light of the panic sessions that our fair city gets into whenever a threat of a snowstorm happens, I have to tip my hat to NYC for its snow-removal efficiency. They really do a pretty good job of clearing the streets within 24 hours of any major snowfall (at least the main streets anyways). So while it's still cold as hell outside, at least you can get around now. NYC should be back to normal today after the "Perfect Storm".

CHAMPIONSHIP WEEK KICKS OFF

The march towards March Madness (i.e. the NCAA Tournament) begins today when some of the smaller basketball conferences kick off their tournaments. That means between now and the end of March, we'll be inundated with tons of college basketball games, insights, stories, photos, etc. Strap yourselves in as this year's Big Dance is as wide-open as I've seen it in years. No clear cut favorite from what I can see. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Cinderella story or two this year. By the way, the BIG EAST tournament actually kicks off next Tuesday (as opposed to the normal Wednesday start) to accommodate the participation of all 16 teams.

RARE PREMIERSHIP ACTION TODAY:

There's a full slate of EPL action today as it has a rare mid-week lineup of matches in place. We'll be carrying the CHELSEA/PORTSMOUTH match at 2:30pm. Stop by and check it out!

BEER BINGO AT THIRD AND LONG!

In our never-ending quest to bring the party to the people, we're bringing on board a new game: BEER BINGO. A twist on the favorite pastime of Catholic schools and churches across the land, our version will provide ample opportunities to win fab prizes and free drinks and of course, have some fun to boot! BEER BINGO takes place beginning next Monday and every Monday after that. So join us for some B-I-N-G-O madness!

PUB TRIVIA IS BACK!

Tomorrow night marks the return of WEDNESDAY NIGHT PUB TRIVIA! With wacky prizes and bar tabs to be won, it's the must-do event of the week! Registration begins at 7pm so arrive early to get a good spot. Fun begins at 8pm!

THIS WEEK'S THEME: European History.

FOR ALL OF YOU MATH GEEKS OUT THERE: It's Square Root Day. I shit you not. The square root gets love today. Pull out your pocket protectors and give a hearty "huzzah"!

BEER OF THE MONTH

This month's "Beer of the Month" is "The Chocolate Cherry", a black and tan hybrid featuring BROOKLYN DARK CHOCOLATE STOUT and SAM ADAMS CHERRY WHEAT. A lovely combination of the bold chocolate punch of the Stout and the smoothness and nice finish of the Cherry Wheat. Try it out and let us know what you think!

TONIGHT: Dollar Draft Madness, featuring $1.00 Bud/Bud Light mugs, 4pm-close!

Quote of the Day: "To be or not to be- That's not really a question." Jean Luc Godard.

The Occasional Problem at Third and Long

As much fun as we have here at Third and Long, we do run into that occasional problem that I've voiced about in the past: The dreaded "Too Many Dicks on the Dance Floor" Syndrome.

This is a problem that we're trying to address and with your patience, we will. :)

SAY IT AIN'T SNOW.
....

All day Sunday the news outlet kept hyping up this huge snow storm that was heading our way. However, I couldn't help but to feel skeptical about it because, to be honest with you, the news media has a way of over-hyping the storm and it usually turns out to be more flash than substance. I think it may have helped in keeping the streets of Murray Hill quiet on Sunday. I can tell you one thing for sure, as I write this post, the hype is looking like the real thing as the precipitation is really accumulating. The morning commute will be a bitch, that much is for sure.
You know how they say "Spring: In like a lion, out like a lamb"? Well if this holds up, this storm will bring in Spring like the Lion King.

Speaking of which, we're finally out of dreaded February and into March, which means Spring is about three weeks away! It also means no more winter doldrums as the bar steps up its game for the upcoming Spring Season. Some things to look forward to this month include the following:

NCAA Championship Week
Big East Tournament
St. Patrick's Day
March Madness
Elephant Parade Party
plus other cool activities such as UFC PPV events, Pub Trivia, and something new: BEER BINGO!!

I'm looking forward to March and all that it brings. It should be a fun month!

*Word of the Week: "Garfunkeling" - the art of having sex while dressed like Art Garfunkel (taken from "Flight of the Conchords"). Love it!

TONIGHT: "Recession Mondays" featuring $1.00 Bud/Bud Light/Coors Light mugs OR $2.00 domestic drafts ALL NIGHT LONG!

As always, keep yourself posted on all of our happenings on our WEBSITE!
