Follow the daily interactions of an affable bar manager of pretty cool and not-so-typical watering hole in NYC, in a not-so-typical neighborhood, Murray Hill. There may be some blurbs overheard at the bar, stimulating observations and random thoughts on random things. So be careful, you never know what might end up here....Enjoy and welcome to my world!

WEEKEND RECAP
This was a long weekend for yours truly, filled with birthday parties, full-moon freaks and busy times in general. The week overall was a good one for the bar, with good crowds pretty much every night of the week. On Friday, we hosted a party for one of our local regulars, the LAW SCHOOL KID, who was celebrating his birthday with a bunch of his law school buddies. The group seemed to have a pretty good time and brought a lot of energy to the bar. We also got a late night appearance from THE RUNNING MAN as he and his NY Met posse rolled in from a bachelor party, feeling no pain whatsoever. Luckily for us, the jukebox wasn't working or else we'd be listening to Kings of Leon the rest of the night. Not that there's anything wrong with Kings of Leon; It just gets a bit tiring listening to the same three songs all night long.
SATURDAY was spent getting ready for the Belmont Stakes and the upcoming 21st birthday party of JUNIOR, our barback. It was also SUDSY SATURDAY, our new Saturday night drink special, so I had to get the bar ready for that. I normally have Saturday nights off but since I was filling in this time around, I usually like to make sure everything is in place for the night.
The night was filled with friends of JUNIOR, some who traveled all the way from Boston, Mass to celebrate the young man's passage into adulthood. Whenever you deal with a birthday party, especially one who's turning 21, you never quite know what to expect. In this case, however, the party went as smoothly as possible as the guests celebrated our friend's birthday and no one acted like an idiot in the process. We even got a girl-on-girl makeout session, which entertained the crowd. Good stuff.
STRANGE SIGHTING OF THE NIGHT: GEEK SQUAD made an appearance last night, this time wearing sunglasses in the dark (which I never quite understood). He was flying solo again, cutting in front of other patrons to get his drink order and leaving his customary $0.00 tip. He also strolled around the bar, injecting himself into various conversations and trying to lay down that "rap" to the ladies, only to have them flee or ignore him. He's definitely an interesting person, that's for sure.
JEREMIAH WEED is my new friend. For the past couple of weeks, NAPOLEON DYNAMITE and SILENT BOB have been raving about this new vodka called "JEREMIAH WEED'S SWEET TEA VODKA"; So finally we brought it in to see what the hub-bub was about. Served on ice with lemonade, Jeremiah Weed's Sweet Tea Vodka is actually pretty damn good. Deceptively strong, yet light and refreshing for this time of year, I predict that it will be a hit here at Third and Long. So next time you're at the bar, ask for the Third and Long "Twizzle Tea"! I think you'll like it too.
There's a lot going on this week. Between the NBA/NHL finals, the YANKEES/RED SOX, METS/PHILLIES rivalry matchups, and interleague baseball this weekend, we're going to have more than our fill of quality sports. We also have a lot of good stuff happening at the bar, with Beer Bingo on Monday, Pub Trivia on Wednesday, a Coors Light promo on Thursday, plus the usual cadre of great drink specials throughout the week. If the weather gods are good to us, we should have another good week.
UPCOMING EVENTS: Third and Long is celebrating 18 years of good pouring fun. With that being said, we will be hosting events throughout the year to pay homage to the milestone. Stay tuned for more details of our first event coming in the very near future!

CRAP.
The rainy morning has just put a damper on my day as it has for most of you I'm sure. But don't worry- if the weather reports are correct, we're in store for a great weekend! We've also got the Belmont Stakes this weekend and that always brings excitement to our area, even though there's no shot of a Triple Crown this year.
In the meantime, we're introducing a new feature to our Saturday lineup: SUDSY SATURDAYS! It starts off with the popular "Kick the Keg" ($2.00 mugs, ALL BEERS ON TAP, 12-8pm)! Then we follow that up with "Sudsy Saturday Nights" ($4.00 20oz BOMBERS of Bud/Bud Light/Coors Light, 8-11pm)!
So endure the rainstorm, as it should clear up by the time you get out of work and enjoy the rest of the weekend!

Last night's Pub Trivia was probably the busiest night of trivia I've seen in quite awhile. And that's saying a lot, considering the fact that it was raining off and on throughout the night. What was telling about the night was the fact that we had a LOT of new faces, which was great to see. There were almost 20 teams competing, which was also pretty cool to see and most of the teams stuck it out to the very end of the competition. We even utilized a video slideshow for the halftime segment, which worked out pretty well after a few bumps early on. I think you can count on us using the video segment more often in future Trivia nights.
Of course, there were a shitload of chicks there and that always makes me happy (I haven't figured out what attracts these chicks to Trivia, but me likey). What was most intriguing about last night's event was the number of folks who stuck around AFTER trivia ended. It ended up being a late night for the staff, and even though I'm paying for it with the late post today, overall you'll get no complaints from me.
Check out the photos from last night's Pub Trivia on our FACEBOOK page!
TONIGHT: Thirsty Thursdays rule the night as we offer you a double deal: MILLER LITE/COORS LIGHT BUCKETS (5/$15.00), from 5pm to 9pm; After that, enjoy $4.00 DOMESTIC DRAFTS all night long! Something for everyone! And don't forget, the NBA Finals kick off tonight with the L.A. Lakers facing off against the Orlando Magic, while the NHL Stanley Cup continues with Game 4 (Detroit leads Pittsburgh 2-1).
And finally, R.I.P. to DAVID CARRADINE, best known in his roles in "Kung Fu" and "Kill Bill, vol1 and 2", who passed away today. You will forever be a part of American pop culture. That's it for now. Got a lot of catching up to do!

JUST WHEN YOU ARE ABOUT TO LOSE ALL FAITH....
In the last few weeks, I've begun questioning to all who would listen, where all of the beautiful women are. New York has always been known as a mecca for beautiful women. But lately I've noticed that the caliber of babes that I'm used to seeing around the city were a tad bit "off" from what I'm used to seeing at this time of year. I'm used to being overwhelmed by the beautiful babes, peeling off their winter skin and flaunting all that is good about them. Instead, I've been inundated with trolls and wannabe Paris Hiltons (eek); I was thinking that maybe all of the hotties made the exodus out of town for good- a frightening thought indeed.
Well, my faith was restored on Tuesday. It was as if by magic, all of the beautiful women of NYC came back to the city in full force and all of them walked by the bar, one by one. T-BILL, I think this was the moment we had been waiting for with baited breath. I can honestly say it's official: Summertime is here. And not a moment too soon. Welcome back o beautiful ladies of NYC!
DOLLAR DRAFT MADNESS RECAP
Last night's Dollar Draft Madness brought about another reminder that summer is finally here: INTERNS. Yes, they are back, ready to slam down mugs of beers with their hard-earned stipends and fall in love with whomever they meet from week to week. It's a time-honored ritual of summer Tuesday nights. You get the freshly minted graduates of college out and about, getting used to the surroundings of Murray Hill; Or you'll get that junior-turned-senior, slaving away for countless hours at an internship for peanuts and making the most of their nights in the greatest city in the world. Mesh those two worlds together with your regulars of Dollar Draft Madness and you get a summer's worth of interesting stories. And I'm pretty sure this year will be much of the same. Stay tuned.
PUB TRIVIA MADNESS TONIGHT!
As if you didn't have this memorized in your mental Rolodex by now, it's Wednesday which means that it's PUB TRIVIA night. The night where you and your co-workers and friends complete against other teams for bragging rights, cool prizes and of course, the chance to hoist the coveted TRIVIA CUP! It's free to play (another cool thing) and all of the action starts at 8pm! Get there early as spots tend to fill up quickly. $4.00 Mixed Well Drinks for ladies and Miller High Life buckets for all (5/$15)!
That's it for now. Enjoy the day and see everyone tonight!

TEABAGS AREN'T JUST FOR DRINKS.
Yesterday was a day filled with big news stories. From the unfortunate accident involving a missing flight from Brazil, to the unthinkable bankruptcy of GM and the dropping of Citigroup from the Dow Jones, interestingly enough, the biggest buzz around the watercooler was over the apparent skit-gone-wrong on MTV's Movie Awards Sunday night.
It started out with SASHA BARRON COHEN, in character as BRUNO, the gay fashion designer, descending from the ceiling, dressed in white wings and little else. As he "floated" towards the stage, he got caught up in something in the ceiling which caused him to drop... right into rapper EMINEM'S lap. As bizarre as this was, what was even more bizarre was the fact that COHEN was wearing something that had his ass exposed and the way he landed onto EMINEM'S lap... well let's just say it made for an uncomfortable moment for the rapper.
Needless to say he was none too please at what took place and flipped out, eventually storming out of the theatre.

Now there are folks (myself included) who think this was a staged event, but that being said, what could EMINEM gain from this? Besides a bad case of balls to the face? Really. Your thoughts.

Ouch.
TONIGHT: Game 3 of the Stanley Cup finals, with the Red Wings leading 2-0. The Series shifts to Pittsburgh as the Penguins scramble to get back into the series. They have a large hole to climb out of; will they do it? Stay tuned...
