ORANGE CRUSHED...

The Sweet Sixteen got off to a rousing start last night, starting with the much-anticipated matchup between the mighty Orangemen of Syracuse and the always underrated Bulldogs of Butler University. The bar was teeming with smug Syracuse fans, many of them already checking out our window brackets and seeing who they would be playing in the Elite Eight. I think I may have counted TWO true fans of Butler University in the crowd and they sat quietly in a corner of the bar, cautiously optimistic about their chances.

When the game began, Butler jumped out to an early lead and pretty much controlled the tempo of the game, holding a double digit lead at halftime. 'Cuse fans were a little worried, but seemed convinced that their team would rebound after halftime. And sure enough, the Orangemen did make a comeback and the cockiness of the 'Cuse fans came out as expected. However, someone forgot to send a memo to the Butler players as they didn't roll over and fall apart as expected. Instead, they kept their composure and stuck to their game plan, which resulted in an improbable 63-59 victory and a berth to the Elite Eight on Saturday.

The mass exodus by 'Cuse fans couldn't have been quicker as the bar cleared out of orange t-shirts quicker than a fat lady farting in church. Oh well. And for the two Butler fans who were celebrating as if they hit the lotto, god bless 'em.

We also got an unexpected treat as KANSAS STATE and XAVIER treated the patrons to an epic double-overtime game, filled with last-minute shots.

After a ton of "oohs and ahhhs", Kansas State finally pulled off a dramatic 101-96 victory over Xavier. Probably one of the best games of the entire tournament.

Hats off to KENTUCKY and WEST VIRGINIA as they held serve in their games vs CORNELL and WASHINGTON. As a result, they get to play each other in what should be an intense "border-war" matchup on Saturday.

We're halfway there to the Elite Eight!

TONIGHT: OHIO STATE vs TENN
& ST. MARY'S vs BAYLOR (7pm), followed by DUKE vs PURDUE and MICHIGAN STATE vs NORTHERN IOWA (9:30pm).

WEEKEND HAPPENINGS:

FRIDAY:
After-Work Happy Hour (5-9pm), featuring $4 Domestic Drafts/Mixed Well Drinks.

SATURDAY: "Kick the Keg Saturday" featuring $2 mugs, ALL BEERS ON TAP (except D.T.), 12-7pm; UFC 111: ST. PIERRE vs HARDY (No Cover Charge).

SUNDAY: "Kick the Keg Sunday" ($2 mugs, all beers on tap, just like Saturday), 12-7pm.

A busy weekend filled with NCAA hoops, NHL action and the upcoming UFC PPV event! Should make for good times!

That's It. That's All I Got!
