A SNIFF OF SPRING...

The weekend brought about a promise of things to come as the temperatures soared into the mid-50's, prompting everyone to come out and enjoy the brief respite from Winter. I find myself especially anxious because with the busy week of sports just ahead of us, the nice weather forecast for the week makes for good business for everyone.

The Big East Tournament kicks off tomorrow with a double-header, starting at 12 noon. I remember back about 10-15 years ago, the Tournament went from Thursday to Saturday. It was quick and intense. Now, because the Big East is SO BIG (sixteen teams), the Tournament has been stretched out to last four days. Top seeds get double-byes (I never heard of that). It's a crazy set up.

Another good thing about the Big East Tournament are the fans that travel for the games. Some of the schools travel better than others and their fans are hardcore. West Virginia, Cincinnati, UCONN and Syracuse are some of the schools that come to mind.

Then there are the boys from Buffalo. The crew that travels every year to NYC for this tournament. They have been coming down for years and are a riot. Who are they? Just a happy-go-lucky group of middle aged guys who plan this trip as a boys weekend out and they party hard, from the time they land to the time they leave. They always score tickets to the games but they don't always make it to the games, if you know what I mean. They are a handful, and a hoot! I look forward to seeing them again.

It should be a good week!

DePaul goes 1-17 in conference play and still gets to enter the tournament? Is that f-ed up or what?

Hell, if that's the way it works we might as well give free healthcare to everyone.
