DRAFT DAY
Today is expected to be a hectic day in the Big Apple; It all starts off with the visit from President Obama who's here to give a speech downtown (as we speak); That means traffic chaos all over the place, which drives New Yorkers like myself crazy.
Then you have the NFL Draft taking place tonight at Radio City Music Hall. Normally this wouldn't be such a big deal; this year, however, the NFL (No Fun League) has decided to take a page out of Hollywood and make the draft a prime-time, glamorous affair. That means shutting down traffic on 6th Avenue so that they can herd the draft night hopefuls into the building a'la the Red Carpet. Chaos will ensue.
I expect the bar will be busy with the NFL draft and the playoffs in both the NBA/NHL taking center stage. I've received a lot of calls already regarding the NFL draft so I'm sure we'll have our share of Draft Day groupies in the house. As for the NHL Playoffs, I haven't had much to cheer about of late as my beloved Montreal Canadiens are getting their arses handed to them by the vastly superior Washington Capitals team. I guess they are the #1 seed for a reason. And the local team, the NJ Devils are facing a similar problem; in their case, however, they are getting dominated by Philadelphia, the #7 seed (NJ is #2). A loss in the first round by them would be a bit of an upset (though in reality, Philadelphia has owned NJ this season). That being said, the games overall have been great to watch so far. I just hope for better results for the teams I'm personally cheering for. Let's see what happens.
As for the NBA playoffs, I have to admit, I haven't paid much attention to it yet, with everything else going on on the sports landscape. As a Cleveland Cavs fan, I do find the antics of one JOAKIM NOAH to be somewhat amusing. For someone who professes no love for the city of Cleveland, I give the guy a lot of credit. He speaks his mind and backs it up with his play (though the rest of the team can't seem to follow suit). The kid has moxie.
HAPPY EARTH DAY! Earth Day celebrates its 40th anniversary this week and all of the "green people" are out in full force, spreading the word on ways to save the planet. God bless 'em. To be honest, I'm surprised that Earth Day has lasted this long. Earth Day is one of those things that should be practiced every day, not just one day a year. That's just my opinion.
PUB TRIVIA last night was a lively affair as usual. Lot of strange folks this time around. From the British couple who spent the majority of their time practically having sex at the bar, to the nitwits who came in third place, only to get booted out of the bar minutes later because they decided to have a "Gatorade" celebration by dumping their bucket of beers, to the gaggle of Spaniards who come in every Wednesday night to leer at our female bartenders (one of them even proposed to "reward me" if I scheduled her every Wednesday night), it was the night of the bizarre. You never know what to expect from one week to the next.
TONIGHT: "Thirsty Thursdays" featuring $4 Domestic Drafts (5-10pm)! Catch all of the action of the playoffs and the NFL Draft here!
That's It. That's All I Got.
