Last night the bar found itself in busy mode for a number of reasons. We hosted a DUVEL GREEN tasting party where we had the opportunity to "officially" unveil DUVEL GREEN, the lighter sister of Belgian-based DUVEL. We had a "soft" introduction of the product about two weeks ago and it's been moving pretty well on its own. Last night's product launch, timed perfectly with the Lakers/Celtics Game 7 final proved to be a hit with the patrons as they took to DUVEL GREEN like a duck to water. It's a damn good beer and the pundits seemed to agree, as they continued to consume it long after the promo ended.
Speaking of the Lakers/Celtics, the main event of the evening was indeed the Game 7 matchup between the two titans of the NBA, with the league championship up for grabs. The support of both teams were split pretty evenly among the patrons at the bar and both sides were pretty vocal in their support throughout the game.
As far as games go, I thought that this game was surprisingly low-scoring for a championship game. I also found it to be a bit boring because of it too. Maybe it was just me not being that into it, ever since my Cleveland Cavs were eliminated weeks ago. But everyone else seemed to be into it and that's the important thing at the end of the day.
One thing I've noticed with this series in particular are the fanatical fans that both teams posses. Especially the Lakers. We have one patron in particular, one of our Sunday Brew Crew regulars who goes by the moniker of SEAN JEAN.
Nutty Laker fan SEAN JEAN
This guy is such a hardcore Lakers fan that I've personally witnessed him have a meltdown during one of the playoff games. I mean a true meltdown, complete with slamming his cap on the ground, screaming and yelling at the TV's, almost breaking into tears.... and his team was winning! He always wears the team colors and could probably recite to you every stat of every player that ever played for the team.
That being said, I expected him to be in rare for last night's game. I even gave him the "pep talk" before the game; you know, the same kind of pep talk that referees give boxers before a match. And surprisingly enough, he kept his composure, especially in light of the fact that the game was pretty close the whole time...

So when the Lakers finally pulled out a victory, I allowed him his moment of happiness and even then he kept his composure. Remarkable, considering I half-expected him to wet his pants.
The game itself, while not the most exciting in my book, still produced enough highlights to keep the crowd happy.
There are a lot of photos from last night's game and Lakers victory celebration. Check them out on our FACEBOOK page!
And with that, the NBA season is officially over. Thank god.
Speaking of pics, check out these pics taken by our friend WHITNEY with her cool new camera's panoramic feature...
I think I need to get a new camera...
AND FINALLY: Tonight we say farewell to one of our own as THE CHEF is hanging up his church key after years of service to Third and Long. A fixture on Friday nights at Third and Long, Andrew Booth has been a favorite of many a patron for almost 15 years, first as a barback and then as a bartender. His quick wit and bubbly personality has endeared himself to all of us over the years and we've been the beneficiary of his culinary talents on more than one occasion. He's moving on to the next stage of life, with a beautiful family and home taking center stage. He's one of the good ones and I can personally say that he will be missed. So if you're in the neighborhood, swing by tonight to say farewell to our dear friend, Andrew (aka "The Chef")!
USA/SLOVENIA highlights to come!
That's It. That's All I Got.
