MELTDOWN IN SOUTH AFRICA?

Sorry for the long delay in between posts; I had spotty Internet coverage over the last couple of days and service finally seems to be working again. It always seem to happen at this time of year (thanks Time Warner). In any case, we're back up and running and off we go!

As I write this, I'm at the bar with a handful of stunned patrons, watching the two Group A matchups taking place. URUGUAY and MEXICO are fighting tooth and nail as everyone expected, with first place/second place in the Group on the line.

In the other match, however, FRANCE and SOUTH AFRICA are playing each other; SOUTH AFRICA playing with an outside chance of qualifying for the knockout stage and of course, for home pride. FRANCE, on the other hand, is playing to save face, after the chaotic drama behind the scenes over the weekend. Between team protests, coaches quitting, players being sent home, etc. The French team is in a state of disarray and they are showing it on the pitch as we speak. As I write this, they are down 2-0 to SOUTH AFRICA and playing with only 10 men. This is crazy, to say the least. If this result holds up, there will be celebrations galore in SOUTH AFRICA AND in IRELAND, even if they don't advance to the next round. The home team will have proved themselves a worthy adversary and have nothing to be ashamed of.

This is why I love the World Cup.

That's It. That's All I Got (for now)....
