WORLD CUP DAY ONE RECAP

Sorry for the lack of a post; I found myself a bit busy at the bar, thanks to this small event called the World Cup. Trying to get adjusted to the earlier opening times. Thank god we have coffee! I was glad to see that folks were excited about the matches. Got about 15-20 people for the South Africa/Mexico match, which was pretty impressive since the match started at 10am. Turned out to be a pretty entertaining match too. Majority of the crowd were rooting for the home team and when they scored the opening goal, the whole bar went nuts (except for our barback, NACHO LIBRE, for obvious reasons).

Mexico didn't give up without a fight, scoring the equalizer late in the game, much to the delight of our dear friend, Mr. Libre. Things got pretty intense towards the end of the match, especially when South Africa had a chance to put the match away on a breakaway, only to have the shot hit the left post with a few minutes left. The match ended in a 1-1 tie, much to the delight of South African supporters and dismay of the Mexican supporters.

The second match featured FRANCE and URUGUAY and that match ended up being a pretty entertaining one as well. While there were no goals scored in that particular match, there were plenty of close calls and questionable ones as well. Uruguay had a problem towards the end of the match when one of their players received a red card, which knocked him out of the match and left the team with only ten players. This presented France with a huge opportunity to score but they couldn't take advantage of the situation, even with a free kick towards the end of the match that would have sealed a win. Uruguay held off their late charge and both teams ended up walking away with a hard-fought 0-0 tie.

All focus now turns to Saturday's matches with USA/ENGLAND headlining a triple-header. The phone's been ringing off the hook for this matchup all week and I expect the place to be packed for the match, so if you plan on checking it out with us, we STRONGLY suggest that you get here early. Seriously. Great drink specials on tap for the match, so wear your team colors and the person who best shows off their team pride may win a $25 bar tab! So express yourselves!

Looking forward to a great time!

That's it. That's All I Got.
