A BANG-UP SPORTS WEEKEND....

This past weekend was a whirlwind of activity at the bar, thanks to the multitude of sports offerings on tap.  Between college football, pre-season hockey, UFC 119, BREW CREW SUNDAYS and a riveting Sunday night game between the NY Jets and Miami Dolphins.  It was a lot to take on both for myself and for my staff but we were up to the challenge and I have to admit, I had fun with it.  Check out some highlights from the weekend:

SATURDAY:

 BREW CREW SUNDAY:

This Sunday was a blast from the past as the Original Sunday Brew Crew had the place back to themselves since the Miami Dolphins were playing a pivotal night game against the NY Jets.  Of course, the crew picked up where they left off, with debauched behavior and ridiculous activity taking place all afternoon.  For example:

SUNDAY BREW CREW "icing" each other?  Really?  We've come down to this? Another sign that the Apocalypse is upon us.

DOLFANS NYC Viewing Party vs NY Jets:

There was a lot of anticipation in the air as the NY Jets were set to play the Miami Dolphins in Miami.  Members of the DOLFANS NYC Club began showing up for the 8:30 game at around 6pm;  I actually had one couple here since 1pm just to get a spot. By gametime the place was packed.

There was even a boisterous Jets contingent who placed themselves right in the middle of the crowd of Fins fans and enjoyed some good-natured banter throughout the game.

We got so crowded for the game that we even started a line outside and folks actually waited until half-time, just to be a part of the fun!

Overall, it was a busy weekend but a fun weekend for everyone involved.  I have to tip my cap to my bar staff; They rose to the challenge of a hectic weekend and came through with flying colors.  With all of the craziness of the games and some of the "interesting" patrons that rolled through this weekend, a lot of things could have gone wrong, but we held it together and as a result, we survived a long, drama-free weekend!  Boom!

There are a TON of pics from the weekend on our FACEBOOK page!  Check them out there!

ON TAP: Now that we're officially into the Fall Season, we've gradually rotated into our beer rotation some seasonal offerings.  Topping that list is OMMEGANG ABBEY ALE.  A dubbel-style ale patterned after the Trappist Monk Abbey Ales of Belgium, this beer is one of the highest rated beers by Beer Advocate, a highly respected beer group within the beer industry.  It packs a whopping 8.5% ABV yet the aroma and taste (think honey, toffee, chocolate and dark dried fruit, with hints of cloves and licorice) will overwhelm you in a good way.  So you won't notice the high alcohol count... until you find yourself professing your love for the patron next to you.  It's that good.  It's rare that you find me gushing over a beer this good and now Ommegang has done it twice (first with HENNEPIN, and now with ABBEY ALE). Do yourself a favor: Try it out.  You won't regret it.

TONIGHT: "Mug Night Mondays" are back with $1 Bud/Bud Light mugs and $2 mugs, all other domestic drafts (5pm-close)!  CHICAGO BEARS vs GREEN BAY PACKERS (8pm).

That's It.  That's All I Got.
