ANOTHER SAD DAY IN HOCKEY

2011 has been an unbelievably sad year for the sport of hockey.  Despite coming off one of it's best seasons in years, the NHL and hockey as a whole as seen a lot of tragedy, especially over the summer months.

There were the tragic deaths of three NHL players, within months of one another (Derek Boogaard,  Ric Rypien and Wade Belak);  All three deaths shocking the hockey world in their own right.  Then what took place yesterday: A chartered plane carrying the Lokomotiv hockey team in Russia crashes within minutes of take-off, killing practically the whole team and coaching staff.  Among the casualties, numerous former NHL players and coaches (read the full story HERE).

I can't think of a time where a particular sport has experienced so much tragedy in one year.  I've been thinking about this all day and it simply blows my mind.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the families of those individuals who lost their lives over the past few months.   It's definitely a shame to see someone die while doing the thing they love most.  What a tragedy.
