IT'S #VALENTINE'S DAY IN NYC!

February 14th brings about a sea of red: Red roses, red boxes of candy, red outfits.... yup, it's Valentine's Day.

As I observe couples walking arm-in-arm and delivery guys scurrying about with bouquets of flowers, I always shake my head.  I've never been a big fan of Valentine's Day, as my blog followers will attest.  Not because I'm a single guy, nor because I don't believe in the expression of love.  Far from it- I like to think I'm a hopeless romantic at heart.  I just hate the blatant commercialism of what Valentine's Day has become.  With the overpriced roses, chocolates, "dining packages", etc., you often find your feelings for a person being measured by what you get that special someone.  Did you buy the right kind of roses?  Was the chocolates made by Godiva? You're taking her to that place?  It becomes a high-pressure day to produce and if you don't do it just right, you find yourself being judged and in many cases, with a set of blue balls.

Seriously, who needs that aggravation?

But if you are in a relationship, you can't avoid it.  You have to partake in the crass commercialism of the day or else....  (blue balls).

Like I said before, if you care about that special someone, expressing your love for that person shouldn't be a one-day thing.  It should be on a continual basis, 365 days a year.  And it doesn't have to be extravagant.  Some of the best gestures are the small ones.

So unless you find yourself in that unique relationship where your partner agrees with your thoughts on Valentine's Day, then you have no choice but to suck it up and deal.  And hope it doesn't burn your wallet too much.

With that said, here's hoping that you enjoy today, Valentine's Day with the one you care about.  Make the most of it and more importantly, show how much you care about that person each and every day and not just today.

Since we're celebrating Valentine's Day, we've decided to come up with a special cocktail for the occasion:  The Flaming Hearts Martini (Fireball Whisky, Apple Pucker and Cranberry w/cherry garnish).

TONIGHT:  It's somewhat fitting that it's Valentine's Day as the NY Rangers face the NY Islanders at MSG.  Two heated rivals playing each other on the Night of Love.  Go figure.  In any case, we will have that game as well as Montreal vs Florida and Toronto vs Carolina.  Basketball fans are in for a treat as well as the NBA features the Miami Heat vs Oklahoma City Thunder, followed by the Battle of LA (Lakers vs Clippers).

DRINK SPECIALS: $4 Coors Light, Molson Canadian & Labatt Blue/Light and $5 Flavored Vodka Drinks (5-10pm)!

Cheers!
