Well, it's the weekend and boy it's going to be a HOT one! I went out earlier in the day to run some errands for the bar and by the time I returned (before lunch), I was drenched in sweat. Definitely a two-shower kind of day.
In any case, it's a holiday weekend (or in a sense, week) here in NYC, so we figured we'd start the celebrations now, starting with CANADA DAY festivities this weekend. We have a fairly large Canadian contingent that frequent Third and Long on a regular basis throughout the year, and since they celebrate their National Day on July 1, we figure we would throw a little party for our friends from the Great White North.
The weekend will be filled with great tunes from Canadian artists such as Drake, Arcade Fire, Barenaked Ladies, Hedley, Carly Jae Respen, Nelly Furtado and others, as well as drink specials throughout the weekend, including Molson Canadian, Labatt Blue, Seagrams, Crown Royal, Bloody Caesars and Fireball Whisky! AND... if you show up wearing your Canadian colors, you get $1 off any Canadian beers or drinks.
There's also the EURO 2012 Final taking place this Sunday between ITALY and SPAIN. Match begins at 2:30pm and we are serving up $4 Estrella Damn, Carlsberg and Murphy's Stout throughout the match. It's going to be a slobber-knocker and as Italy demonstrated on Thursday in their victory over Germany, anything is possible! Get here early!
And finally, we're celebrating our own Independence Day on July 4th! While we're closed for the holiday to be with our families, we will host a pre-Independence Day celebration on Tuesday, July 3, with $3 PBR's along with our weekly Craft Brew Tuesday promo! It should make for a good week of celebrating!
So in the meantime, stay fresh and cool and make sure to join us for some good, pouring fun!
Cheers!
Follow the daily interactions of an affable bar manager of pretty cool and not-so-typical watering hole in NYC, in a not-so-typical neighborhood, Murray Hill. There may be some blurbs overheard at the bar, stimulating observations and random thoughts on random things. So be careful, you never know what might end up here....Enjoy and welcome to my world!

AND JUST LIKE THAT- ANOTHER HOLIDAY WEEKEND IS HERE....
The Summer of 2011 is moving quickly and quite frankly, that bothers me. We didn't have much of a Spring and now that we're finally getting the appropriate weather for the season, it's halfway over! What the heck? And so far, I have nothing to show for it. Ugh. Gotta make up for lost time. Soon.
With the upcoming long 4th of July Weekend looming over us, many people will no doubt be making the trek out of town. That being said, there's still a lot of things going on in the city, as well as at the bar. For example:
TOMORROW night is July 1, which is CANADA DAY. Last week we celebrated QUEBEC DAY with our French-Canadian friends and had a great turn out. This time around, we bring the party to the rest of our Canadian brethren, who will be showing off their national pride, much like the rest of us will on Monday, July 4th.
Expect a night of great music from well known Canadian bands such as Arctic Fire, The Tragically Hip, Neil Young, Shad the Whale, Alanis Morrissette, Avril Lavigne and dare I say it..... Bieber! Also look for great deals on Molson Canadian, Labatt Blue, Alexander Keith's Nova Scotia Brown Ale and Dieu du Ciel beers as well as our now-famous "Spiced Apple" cocktails (Fireball Cinnamon Whisky, Apple Pucker and Cranberry). Wear your Canadian colors proudly and celebrate with us all night!
YANKEES vs METS Subway Series resumes this weekend at Citi Field and with both teams playing well of late, this should be a pretty intense series this time around. Catch our Viewing Party on Saturday (4pm) as we serve up $2 Hometown NY Lager mugs and giveaways throughout the game!
Of course, Monday we celebrate our own national holiday as the 4th of July decends upon us. Besides the multitude of BBQ's and tanning at the beach sessions, an option for you is to join us for our Pre/Post game fireworks party! We'll be serving up $2 domestic drafts, $3 PBR red-white-blue cans and a USA-themed playlist to show off our national pride! Swing by anytime after 4pm and kick back and enjoy the evening with us!
ON ANOTHER NOTE: My moles tell me that last night's Pub Trivia kicked ass. You be the judge.
Join us for an evening of great beer sampling as the brewmasters of local brewery Greenport Harbor stops by to share some of its best from its keg and cask lines.
Beers highlighted by Greenport Harbor includes their Citrus IPA (CASK), Havre Rouge and Harbor Ale (DRAFT). The cask ale is specially priced at $6/pint while the Harve Rouge (Belgian Style Amber, 5.4% ABV) and Harbor Ale (English Style Pale Ale, 5.3%ABV )can be had at $4/pint.
