WASHOUT.

Just like the title says, last night was a virtual washout thanks to the steady downpours we got off and on throughout the night. The NY Yankees/Oakland A's game, due to start at 7pm was held in a rain delay until 10pm, that's how bad the rains were. 3rd Avenue was pretty dead as a result. Hey, shit happens. Every night isn't going to be gangbusters, that's the nature of the business.

On another note, we received a visit from a blast from the past: JON CUSACK. He hadn't been around the bar since Super Bowl Sunday, having moved across the river to Hoboken, NJ. However, he's been making his way back into Murray Hill of late and there are rumors that he may make a return to the neighborhood. I guess you can take the boy out of "The Hill", but you can't always take "The Hill" out of the boy.

PRAYERS ARE NEEDED for RUBY, the Third and Long mascot as she is scheduled for the dreaded "SNIP" job this week. I guess this will ensure that RUBY will indeed be one of a kind. So the next few days you'll probably see our dear friend waddling around the neighborhood with a funnel around her neck. Try not to laugh too hard.

Here's what's on tap this weekend at THIRD and LONG:

TONIGHT: "After-Work Happy Hour" with Tommy D holding court until CHEF TELL and WINNIE COOPER take over. Featuring $4.00 Mixed Well Drinks and Draft Beers* from 5-9pm, what better way to kick off the weekend?
*Guinness/Delirium Tremens not included

SATURDAY: "Kick the Keg Saturdays" starts out our day with $2 mugs, ALL BEERS ON TAP* (12-8pm), followed by "Sudsy Saturdays", featuring 20oz "Bombers" of Coors Light, Bud or Bud Light, $4 each (8pm -11pm)! Don't forget we carry the MLB package for all of your MLB action! Cheer on your favorite team at any time!
*Delirium Tremens not included

Have a great weekend!

AROUND THE WORLD WE GO...

It never ceases to amaze me how far this thing will travel.

Aside from the loyal fan base we've accumulated from NYC, I'm finding that we seem to attract more and more folks from around the country and around the world. Some folks stumble upon this blog by chance, while others discover us through word of mouth. In any case, for many of you, what started out as a passing fancy has grown into a dedicated read. And to guesstimate the number of people who actually come into the bar when they finally visit NYC is virtually impossible.

In one sense, it's rather flattering to meet up with folks who learned of us through the blog- in another sense, it's also somewhat embarrassing. What is the biggest curiosity factor for the first-time visitors of the bar? The blog personalities that I often write about. You would be surprised at the number of times that a first-time visitor looks around the place and tries to point out a NAPOLEON DYNAMITE or a MR. LOW-KEY or a BLONDE CHATTERBOX. I'm often told that they feel like they have a connection with these folks or that they are surprised that these personalities really exist. I usually just shake my head and reassure them that they do indeed exist.

So, for all of you readers from around the world, thanks for checking in with us each day and of course, whenever you do find yourselves in NYC, please make it a point to stop in and see us. Chances are pretty good that you'll find me or some of the regulars there. Feel free to introduce yourselves- i'm sure you'll get a great story or two from them.

MLB EXTRA INNINGS A BONAFIDE HIT!

Ever since we signed up for the Major League Baseball package, we've gotten nothing but compliments from die-hard baseball fans who now have a place to catch their favorite hometown teams. As everyone knows, Manhattan is an island of transplanted folks and often they want a place to check out their favorite teams. Well, we're aiming to please and with the MLB package, it's a great way to get a piece of the action. And coupled with the $4.00 pints of Brooklyn Pennant Ale '55 (named in honor of the Brooklyn Dodgers), it's a great tandem. Especially for fans of the West Coast teams like the L.A. Dodgers or Angels, San Francisco Giants, San Diego Padres or the Arizona Diamondbacks!

BOTTLE SELECTION INCREASES BY THE DAY.....

If you'll note in the photo above, Third and Long has increased its selection of bottled beers, now including more microbrews to increase the options for the discerning Third and Long patron. New to the family: BLUE POINT TOASTED ALE and BLUEBERRY WHEAT. Along with the HARPOON I.P.A., HARPOON RASPBERRY U.F.O., HARPOON U.F.O., Unibrue mainstays LA FIN DU MONDE, EPHEMERE APPLE and BLANC DU CHAMBLY (based out of Canada). Coming soon: BLUE POINT HOPTICAL ILLUSION I.P.A.

TONIGHT:

Dollar Draft Madness (4pm-close). This is the last edition of Dollar Draft Madness ($1.00 Bud/Bud Light mugs) before we close for "cosmetic touch-ups". So be sure to stop by and check us out- with FRENCHY and RED WING CHICK behind the bar, it's sure to be a blast!

Enjoy the day!

ANOTHER STRANGE TURN OF EVENTS....

Basking in the glow of yesterday's announcement, I found myself being congratulated by patrons and friends alike time and time again. It was a really nice feeling to read about ourselves in the the NY DAILY NEWS and the reward we received (NYC's Best Sports Bar). It's also a nice feeling knowing that I, along with a lot of hard-working people helped to make this happen.

So that being said, last night's Happy Hour had the makings of Bizarro-World: Aside from the numerous well-wishers popping up all over the place. You had the regular contingent of annoyingly cheap interns (who made life hell for FRENCHY), tourists who didn't know that you ACTUALLY HAD TO PAY for a beer, techie-goons who were making life miserable for folks with their annoyingly large backpacks, and then this, rather unusual sight:

MR. TANQUERAY, NORBIT, DIRTY SANCHEZ, and TURBO, huddled around a corner of the bar.... playing "Barrel of Monkeys". I shit you not. Four grown men (and I use the term " loosely"), each with their own personality quirks, having a grand old time playing "Barrel of Monkeys" was a sight to behold. I only wished that I'd had the photo to commemorate such an event. Oh wait a minute.... if you look carefully, you may catch the grown men at the bar, concentrating on their newfound obsession.

It was one of those nights. Strange.

FUNNY MOMENT OF THE NIGHT

A group of off-duty cops were hanging out in front of the bar when this well-dressed, yet sloppy drunk came up to them and began chatting them up. He went on to trash cops, talking about how they do this, or how they do that, basically trashing the Men in Blue to shreds. The off-duty cops, impressively enough, don't react to him at all. The guy ends up sitting at their table, whooping it up with the group, totally oblivious of the fact that the new found friends that he thought he'd made were actually cops.

After about a half-hour of this, someone finally clued the poor guy in on the fact that everyone that he'd been talking with were cops. You should have seen his face turn white as he suddenly got up from where'd been sitting, excuse himself from the table and then make a beeline out of the bar. Funny stuff.

TODAY:
AFTERNOON BASEBALL via MLB PACKAGE

We have various games on tap featuring Yankees/Twins, KC/Chicago, Tampa Bay/Oakland, just to name a few. (Third and Long carries ALL MLB GAMES via the MLB Extra Innings Package).

"LADIES NIGHT" (5pm - close): $3.00 Mixed Well drinks for all ladies, $5.00 Imported Beers, Cosmos and Appletinis (for everyone else).

More to come!
