THE GAUNTLET HAS BEEN THROWN....

For weeks I've been prodding a couple of our regulars to show of their culinary talents and for whatever reason, they've been reluctant to do so. MR. LOW-KEY, a frequent chef for the bar staff, often creates awesome dishes and brings them to the bar for the staff to nosh on; and T-BILL, no shrinking violet in the kitchen himself, has from time to time, whipped up some goodies that leaves us wanting more.

So the other day, I casually suggested to the both of them that they should have a proper cook-off, to see who the real "Chef of Third and Long" really is. Both of them laughed at me and more or less blew my suggestion off, until.......................................

Sunday afternoon and another edition of BREW CREW SUNDAY. T-BILL strolls in and presents to me what turned out to be a homemade meatloaf sandwich.

Not just any meatloaf sandwich, mind you. More like a super-duper-mind-blowing-rastclot-bumberclot-mutha-sucka of a meatloaf sandwich. I mean, this was something that made you go "ummmmmmmmmm" , even before taking a bite of it. It was that good. T-BILL made a couple of them to share with members of the BREW CREW and each and every one of them had the same reaction I did. It wasn't until I was completely done with my sandwich did it dawn on me that maybe T-BILL was trying to influence the judge by dropping off the 'wich. Feck it. It was still good.

MR. LOW KEY... the challenge is on- will you accept?

The day was typical in that there were a lot of folks there, enjoying the games, each other's company and of course, the drink. As the day went on, here are a few things I've noticed about BREW CREW SUNDAYS:

1) As some regulars drift off into the sunset, new ones come in to take their place. While it's always sad to see some of the regulars move on, I've come to terms with it. It's a fact of life. A natural progression of things.

2) When did we become an outpost for Dolphins fans? The last couple of weeks the number of Miami Dolphins fans at the bar has increased each time. Most of them are pretty cool, though there are some strange ones within their ranks. I guess each NFL team has its share of odd ducks.

3) More small groups of females are making their way to the bar for football. And surprisingly, they actually stick around. In the past, you get a couple of chicks in the bar for BREW CREW SUNDAY and they are usually frightened within minutes of witnessing the chaos and head for the hills.

4) I know our restrooms aren't as "intimate" as the old ones, but for some folks, it doesn't seem to matter. They will try to get their swerve on, regardless. God bless 'em.

5) If you come out for FAN-tasy Football Sunday and pay for your drinks in quarters... maybe you should hold off- until you can at least show up with a billfold. I'm just sayin'.

6) What is it about folks that think that they can simply walk in at any time and just demand to watch whatever they want, whenever they want, regardless of the fact that someone else may be watching something else? WTF?

7) Pet peeve of the week: Ordering rounds of drinks and not bringing up your empties. Then bitch about having to wait for a drink because there are no more clean glasses. Um, helllloooooooo.....

The day went by quickly and without incident, though we almost had a bit of a tiff later in the evening when one of the semi-regulars, a hardcore Jets/Yankees fan decided to have words with a Red Sox fan. Not quite sure why, but he always pisses and moans about the Red Sox Nation and how he hates them. Hey buddy- get a grip already! I don't know what the Boston Red Sox did to you to cause you to want to hate, kill, maim, etc each and every one of their fans, but to be honest, you gotta let it go. We're adults now.

Overall, another successful, fun day!

Miami has the Dolphins,
The greatest football team!
We take the ball from goal to goal,
Like no one's ever seen!
We're in the air,
We're on the ground,
We're always in control.
So when you say Miami,
You're talking Super Bowl!

(Chorus 1)
Cause we're the Miami Dolphins,
Miami Dolphins,
Miami Dolphins Number 1.

(Chorus 2)
Yes we're the Miami Dolphins,
Miami Dolphins,
Miami Dolphins Number 1.

(Repeat)
