NYC MARATHON PARTY '08

The NYC MARATHON took place and that usually means a busy day for the bar. With many of the patrons, employees and friends of the bar participating in the race, that often equals a great after-party at the bar. This year's edition was unique because of the circumstances involving our dear friend MATT LONG (aka IRON MAN). He was participating in the race after coming back from a near-tragic accident that almost cost him his life.

The afternoon started out normally with the hardcore football fans hanging out and watching the various games. Most of the usual suspects from the BREW CREW were there as well as more than your share of newbies, many who were in town for the Marathon.

As the day went on, the place continued to fill up with folks who were there to meet up with participants of the race and by 4pm, we were slammed. As the runners arrived, medals in hand, the bar gave a rousing cheer to each and every one, showing them their appreciation for a job well done.

The biggest applause, however, went to MATT LONG, as he entered the bar with a big smile on his face, completing the biggest challenge on his comeback trail. He ended up finishing the race in 7hrs 21min 22sec, topping it off with a ten-pushup exhibit after crossing the finish line. It was truly inspiring to see, knowing that by doctor's accounts, he should have had a 1% chance of surviving his tragic accident three years ago, let alone walk again. Truly the highlight of the day.



Overall, as you can see in the pics below, it was a fun and inspirational day. But then again, Marathon Day always is.
