Follow the daily interactions of an affable bar manager of pretty cool and not-so-typical watering hole in NYC, in a not-so-typical neighborhood, Murray Hill. There may be some blurbs overheard at the bar, stimulating observations and random thoughts on random things. So be careful, you never know what might end up here....Enjoy and welcome to my world!

HAPPY ST. JEAN BAPTISTE DAY!
Last night the bar hosted a "Quebec National Day" bash, (better known as ST. JEAN BAPTISTE DAY), and the place was packed with revelers celebrating their French-Canadian culture. For those of you out of the loop, this holiday commemorates the feast day of St. John the Baptist. On this day (June 24), Canadians honor St. Jean-Baptiste, the patron saint of French Canada, and celebrate their country’s rich French heritage. In the province of Quebec, St. Jean-Baptiste Day is an official holiday known as the Fête nationale du Québec and is celebrated with parades, concerts, and other festivities. And with a large number of Quebecois living/working in NYC, let's just say that you don't need to be in Quebec to celebrate the holiday!
The French-Canadian crowd was very diverse, yet they were all there for the same thing: to network and celebrate their heritage. With a largely French-Canadian playlist (that was surprisingly good), Montreal-style smoked meat sandwiches and bagels from MILE END in Brooklyn and a nice mix of Canadian beers such as La Fin Du Monde, Blance de Chambly, Ephemere and the more well known brands like Labatt Blue and Molson Canadian, it was the perfect mix for a good time.
A lot of work went into planning out this event, and to be honest, I was a bit nervous; I didn't know what to expect. There's only so much reaching out and publicizing you can do. At some point you have to let the chips fall where they may and see what happens. Fortunately, we experienced a great turnout and aside from a few minor blips here and there, everything worked out fine and everyone had a great time...

USA vs GHANA: JUDGEMENT DAY, Part 2. Saturday, June 26th, 2pm. If this turns out to be anything like USA/England on a Saturday afternoon, then you know the place will be jumpin'! The AC is fixed and pumping out cold air so you can cheer Team USA in comfort. GET THERE EARLY! Last time around, we started filling up at 12 noon for a 2pm kickoff! And we will be strict with capacity rules! So you snooze, you lose (or you can be like the schnooks stuck looking in the windows with the homeless)!
That's It. That's All I Got.
