2010 WORLD CUP... NOW A PLEASANT MEMORY
After a month of EARLY morning round-robin matches, thrilling shots and saves, controversial calls and cries for replays, we finally reached the pinnacle of the tournament: the World Cup Final.
The match up between SPAIN and THE NETHERLANDS ensured us that we would have not only a new champion, but a first time champion at that. I wasn't sure what kind of turnout we would get for the Final because to be quite frank, we're not used to seeing these two teams in the finals. I knew that both teams had followings, but I wasn't quite sure how deep they rolled.
With the match set to begin at around 2:30 EST, fans began rolling into the bar at about 1pm. Most seats filled up by 1:30pm and by the time we got to kickoff, the place was packed.

One of the things that I noticed about the World Cup Finals (or any huge international event), are the number of hot women who turn out for these things. I know NYC is known for its beautiful women, but DAMN! The international flavor that was walking in and out of the bar dressed in their Spain or Netherlands colors were enough to make your head spin.
The match itself was pretty intense. Both teams went at it tooth and nail and it took extra-time before Spain was able to pull out a last-minute victory over the hard-luck Dutch. There were some questionable calls in the match, as it had been throughout the tournament and it helped to bring down the mighty Dutchmen. So while Team Espana celebrated on the pitch, the Oranj looked as if they were thoroughly squeezed out (excuse the pun).
And just like that, WORLD CUP '10 was over. South Africa proved to be a worthy host and everyone seemed to enjoy the tournament. There were a lot of great matches, plenty of controversy, memorable shots and surprising results. We had a lot of fun with it and hope that you did too. If the letdown from the Cup ending wasn't enough, we also find that the Final took place on the same day that Major League Baseball hits its All-Star Break. Which as you know, is traditionally the WORST week of the year in terms of sports. There is NO sports (real sports anyway) between now and Thursday, when baseball resumes and the British Open kicks off.
So in the meantime, we chill out at the bar and make the best of it. Check out the rest of the World Cup photos on our FACEBOOK page.
On another note, early indications are that the LAGUNITAS IPA and OMMEGANG HENNEPIN are garnering positive reviews. The Hennepin, especially has been very well-received, due in large part to the unique tap handle. It looks a lot like an argyle patterned handle, pretty cool I must admit. And the whopping 7.7% ABV ain't nothing to sneeze at as well. Make sure you try them out and tell me what you think.
TONIGHT: MUG NIGHT MADNESS, featuring $1 Bud/Bud Light mugs or $2 mugs, all other domestic drafts, ALL NIGHT LONG! Beer Bingo kicks off at 7pm; FREE TO PLAY and who knows? You may even win some nice prizes!
That's It. That's All I Got.
