WHIRLWIND WEEKEND
While the bar was pretty busy in its own right, thanks to our UFC 118 pay-per-view event on Saturday night, I found myself out of Murray Hill for a change, actually attending the UFC 118 event live in Boston, MA. FIRE MARSHALL ED and myself were invited up for the event by the UFC itself, which was pretty cool.
We drove up on Friday afternoon and after five hours of parking lot traffic, we finally arrived in Boston, just in time to freshen up, change clothes and make a mad dash to the V.I.P. cocktail event where we would be schmoozing and boozing with UFC fighters, local celebs and other East Coast bar/club owners. It turned out to be a good time as we got to mingle and take photos with such UFC stars as Anderson Silva, Forrest Griffin and Clay Guida.
The day after found ourselves trekking around Boston trying to take in as much as we could before checking out the big fight on Saturday night. That also involved checking out the UFC Fan Expo. To be honest, we didn't quite know what to expect at this thing. I knew the UFC was big but I didn't realize how big it really was until we walked into the Convention Center. Boy, were we blown away by what we saw...
The event itself was pretty lively, even if the matches themselves weren't. While the matchups on paper seemed pretty good, the actual matches, save for a couple, were kinda boring. Oh well, luck of the draw. You can't always get knockouts in every event. I did enjoy watching the fanatical fans in the stands though. They were really into the event. Overall, I have to say I was pretty impressed with UFC. I can understand why boxing is worried about them and why they continue to grow in popularity. The UFC knows how to put on a good show and they know how to treat their fans.
Overall, it was a good quick trip! Now to get back into the swing of things! We're heading into the last week of summer, then it's FOOTBALL SEASON!
MUG NIGHT MONDAYS featuring $1 Bud/Bud Light mugs OR $2 mugs, all other domestic drafts (5pm-close)!
That's It. That's All I Got!
