TRAINING DAY...

Sorry for the late post. I've been running around taking care of errands all morning and now I'm in the midst of training a new day bartender. Kind of a pain in the arse, but luckily, this guy is a good guy with a great personality. But still, having to train a new person is always somewhat of a pain in the arse but a necessary evil if you want to make sure that the new person is doing the job the way you want them to.

The UFC event turned out to be pretty good on Saturday night, with a capacity crowd totally getting into the action. Lots of nice looking ladies were in attendance as well as the usual UFC freaks and most of the matches were on point. However, the highlight of the evening didn't take place on screen, but outside after the main event ended. Apparently two groups of guys were in the bar down the street and got into a war of words. The war of words somehow escalated into shoves and next thing you know, a pier-six brawl (I love that term) breaks out on 3rd Avenue. The fight escalates even further and what started out as two or three guys going at it grows into a mini-riot of AT LEAST ten guys going toe-to-toe, right in front of our bar. The fight continued for about five minutes but it felt like an hour. When the smoke finally cleared (no thanks to the cops who were late in arriving as usual), there was blood all over the sidewalk, plenty of cuts and bruises among the combatants and the look of horror from the witnesses who happened to see the brouhaha take place. Kinda scary stuff.

DOLLAR DRAFT MADNESS resumes tonight, just in time for the MLB ALL-STAR GAME (8pm). I usually hate this time of year because there's literally no sports going on this week (until Thursday) except the much-ballyhooed Home Run Derby and the MLB All-Star Game, two of the more BORING sporting events ever created. Oh well, at least you have $1.00 Bud/Bud Light mugs to tide you over until Thursday.

ALL-STAR MARATHON..... WOW!

Last night's MLB All-Star Game turned out to be one for the ages. A fifteen-inning classic lasting almost 5 hours, the game provided many "oohs and ahhs" for the patrons as both teams actually played hard in the quest for World Series home field advantage.

The bar was packed for much of the evening, with interns, suits, a couple of birthday parties, and tourists who couldn't get tickets to the game taking in the action. We even had our own bit of action as a couple of geeks decided to get into a shoving match with each other and the Third and Long Staff (led by yours truly) having to intervene and" escort" them out the door.... Fun stuff.

Happy Birthday... to someone.

How ironic was it that I got a picture of the combatants before they squared off....

Then I realized that they were really going at it....

Our "Jonah Hill" look-alike...

So after the last out was made at around 1:35am, those fractured few who stuck around until the very end left the bar with smiles on their faces, knowing that they'd just witnessed a classic ball game. One for the record books.

TONIGHT: "Ladies Night" with $3.00 Mixed Well Drinks (for ladies), $5.00 Cosmos/Appletinis and Imported Beers, ALL NIGHT LONG!
