UPDATING THE STATE OF AFFAIRS....

It's now 11:25pm and after a moderately busy happy hour and the typical lull that follows, the bar is beginning to fill up again. And once again, the bar itself is lined up with lovely ladies. I swear, there must be something in the water or a full moon because the past few weeks, the talent has improved drastically.

This has turned out to be one of the better weeks for us, in spite of the Jewish holidays. Normally the "High Holy Days" means a drop in business for us, but for some reason, that really hasn't been the case this time around. Hey, we'll keep riding the wave for what its worth. I guess I shouldn't complain considering that this is the first time since god-knows-when that both NY teams are out of the baseball playoffs. Having both teams missing in October has definitely hurt the bar business, as reported in a recent NY Daily News article.

WINNIE COOPER is in a lovey-dovey mood- I guess her boyfriend showing up may have something to do with that.

Here's a scenario I often find myself getting caught in: What do you do when someone comes up to you and makes conversation and you can't remember their name from a hole in the wall? That seems to happen to me all the time, more so recently. I'm as good as it gets when it comes to faces, yet if you ask me a name, more often than not I will draw a blank. I hate that. Example: I came into the bar yesterday afternoon and bumped into CHEF TELL who'd just gotten off of work. He was there to meet up with FIRE MARSHALL ED and I about some business dealings. Along with CHEF TELL was a guy who looked very familiar to me but I couldn't place his name. As it turns out, he was a guy I used to work with at LONGSHOTS, a bar that the fellas used to own before I started at THIRD and LONG, 17 years ago! There you go.

Finally booked my long-overdue trip to Quebec. Have the itinerary in hand and will be in the Land of the North the last week of October, including on my birthday and in Montreal on Halloween. That should be a change of pace to celebrate outside of Murray Hill for a change. Looking forward to it.

The bar's starting to pick up steam, so I better sign off.

Don't forget about "Kick the Keg" Saturdays (12-8pm), featuring $2.00 mugs, ALL BEERS ON TAP!
