From Red to Orange.....
I decided to take advantage of a beautiful day and venture outside of Murray Hill to check out "The Gates", the much-talked about exhibit in Central Park. As I mentioned before, various customers shared their feelings on the exhibit, most of them negative; however, I had to see it for myself.
As I approached Central Park South, I couldn't help but to notice the various groups of tourists on the bus, armed with cameras and smiles. That helped to increase my excitement as I realized that I was going to take part in a historic event, regardless of the negative feedback it received thus far. I finally reach my destination and get off the bus and there it was: ROWS AND ROWS AND ROWS OF ORANGE SHEETS.....The first thing that came to mind was Holland and it's national colors. It was kinda neat. Then I noticed the throngs of people armed w/cameras and taking pictures from every angle imaginable. As I walked deeper into the park, a sobering thought came into my head: in the twenty years that I lived in NYC, I've never actually enjoyed a walk in Central Park! Of course, I've driven through the park, cut through the park going from point A to point B, but I never actually took a stroll through the park with the purpose of doing just that. Hmmmm..... It was actually pretty cool to stroll without the thought of work or errands or anything.
After awhile, the orange sheets began to blend in and my focus began to turn on the people who were there to check out the exhibit. I have to say that Central Park on a nice sunny day attracts the most beautiful women. Damn. I think I enjoyed that more than the exhibit itself. There were a lot of classes there on field trips, a lot of old couples, plenty of people who liked the exhibit and just as many who were bewildered at the thought that someone actually paid 20 million of their own money to stage such a simple concept. Whether or not you want to call it art, it did get the job done by getting people to talk about it, that's for sure....
My job's done here and I got my dose of culture in for the day. It's a beautiful day today so make sure you get out and enjoy it! And if you are in the neighborhood, stop by for $1 Domestic Mugs tonite!
NUFF SAID!
