LEND A HELPING HAND....

After watching the news reports and video of the victims of Hurricane Katrina, if you don't feel a sense of sadness at what occurred, then I don't know what else to say. To have practically an ENTIRE city pretty much wiped out by the forces of nature....damn. Imagine if Manhattan got hit with something like that? There would be no words to describe that scene. So if you have it in you, dig in your pockets and make a donation to help out the many who are in obvious need. I'm enclosing a link to the American Red Cross, if you want to make a donation there. If you have another organization in mind or if have other ways in which you want to help, do what you gotta do. Just do something. It would also be interesting to see what the other nations around the world will do to help. Usually it's the other side of the coin and we are one of the first to help out those nations in need during a crisis....

So last night I was involved in yet another fantasy football draft. This time it was for our Third and Long Fantasy Football League, of which I am the THREE-TIME CHAMPION. This year's draft involved 12 guys, drafting online from all over the city, as well as one guy drafting from California. The smack talk was in full-effect, as the other guys clearly stated their intentions to dethrone yours truly. On that note, I simply say: "In order to be the man, you have to BEAT the man". It should make for some lively spirited competition and good pouring fun on Sundays....I CAN'T WAIT!

I also ran into a couple of people who used to frequent the bar on a regular basis, but recently disappeared. It turns out that in both instances, they had met someone and gotten involved in relationships. Now I've seen this scenario countless times: they hang out at the bar, meet someone, go on a couple of dates..then disappear from the face of the earth. In some instances, they move away, but usually they fall head over heels with each other that they spend every waking moment together....then months later, when they reappear, it's usually because they either moved back into the neighborhood, or their fleeting romance came to an end. What's up with that? What is it about love that will cause people to drop their routines, forget their friends and disappear off the face of the earth? Someone please enlighten me.

Tonight is the last big shindig before the long holiday weekend. $4 Coronas/Michelob Lights/Sam Adams Summer Ale all night long! There will also be a DJ providing the tunes to swerve by! So start your last summer fling with a bang at THIRD and LONG!
See you tonight!

yo, lemonparty, you're a dick, move on. as for all the mayhem that's going on in N.O., you keep watching and hope that this really isn't happening. I can't even imagine losing everything, and having no where to turn. Anyways, I hope that it gets better for those down there. yo, swandizzle, apologies for the harsh language, but sometimes people need to be put in their place.

Hard to feel badly for NO and the people that stayed there. The people, LO, LA, and the Feds knew this would happen eventually and did nothing about it (fix your levees s***heads!). And it's hard to feel badly for many of the people still there, since stealing TV's and shooting at rescue helicopters doesn't exactly help you or the city. F*** the animals that do this. I hope they wash away into the Gulf with the rest of the sewage. Oh, and lemonparty is indeed a cunt.

Yeah, I was actually just turning on the tv to watch, and i can't belive how when one thing falls apart, people turn into animals. I do hope they all get theirs. I am just dumbfounded about how society breaks down in a situation like this. I agree with you both on the fact that people shouldn't have sat around and hoped for the best, but still the same, we don't know their situations, and i feel bad that they've all lost everything that defined them. And i'm curious to see, like swanfather mentions, what the other countries will do to help, maybe this will turn the lights on for America to begin helping America first, all the other countries help themselves first. Yep, and I also agree with the other 2 posts, lemonparty is a waste of sperm.

Yeah it's true the citizens of N.O. were warned to get out, but let's be realistic for a moment. N.O. is one of the POOREST cities in the U.S. (if you ever been there for Mardi Gras and just happened to stroll out of the French Quarter, then you'll agree). And for a lot of these people, getting out of town was simply not an option (due to lack of means). And it sucks that an overwhelming situation would reduce some people to do desperate acts; some folks looting for food and water, and others (definately idiots), looting for the sake of looting; some of these same jackasses are actually going from house to house and looting from people stuck in their homes. Now those people should be in line for some pay-per-view hangings, with the proceeds going to those in need...

the situation is unimaginable by those of us who are not living through it. Hey, people were warned to get out, and most thankfully did, but how many times have the weather people cried wolf just to increase ratings in the past years when nothing too significant has happened? I can understand looting water, batteries, clothing, food and other essentials; but to steal jewelery, guns, beer, sneakers, etc....that is just criminal, and the worst sort of opportunism. There is always an element that stays behind in any emegency situation for the opportunity to take advantage of those who headed the warnings and evacuated. These are the worst elements of society and the govenrment should fully act on the martial laws and punish these people without hesitation. I just hope to see as many "hurricane fundraisers" as we saw "sunami fundraisers". The intersting thing about Americans is that they have a sense that this country is far superior to all others and that makes it easier to give aid to other countries when they have a disaster because we feel pity, and giving to them gives feeds into our sense of superiority. When the disaster hits home, it is somehow our fault, and we cannot understand the full scope of the tragedy. Therefore, we are more hesitant to help and look to place blame..." hey we should have known that this could happen"...." why can't we restore order to these areas?".....how come we are not prepared to respond?".....this is what you get from global warming"....."if we can't deal with this, how can we hope to deal with large scale terrorist act?"....I say fuck all of this! An act of nature is unstopable(sp?), and no amount of governnment action could have prevented this. Lets just all do our best to help out where we can. Try to give blood, can foods, money, or clothing.

now that is -nuff said!

Oh,

I disagree. We should have learned from a) the Dutch disaster of the 50's, where their insufficient dikes were overwhelmed and great loss of life ensued (they learned and now there are triplicate levees in Holland, which, ironically, we helped to build) and b) the warnings of most serious scientists and engineers who predicted that NO's levee system would not withstand a storm of this size. This has been known for years and years. Right, nobody can contest nature, so perhaps it would be advisable to avoid the reconstruction of this city in the same place - below sea level, flanked by a lake, right up by the largest river in North America (which floods quite a bit), and in the middle of a hurricane track. I don't want my tax dollars going to the rebuilding of this most inexcusably situated city.

These looters are the scum of the f****** earth and should be shot on sight. How can you shoot at a rescue helicopter or a hospital. How can you steal from a nursing home? Animals, pure and simple.

F*** the benefits - they don't work. They're just a means for Hollywood/celebrity types to make themselves look good. Hey Brad Pitt, stop telling me how much of my f****** money I should give to the Red Cross and write your own damn check. Maybe these richest of all folks should foot the bill instead of expecting us to. And, I want my $10 back for Troy.
