MUST BE BALL-DROPPING TIME...
We had another interesting night, one of peculiar trends. The early part of the evening was rather slow, with the bar being filled with the bar staff and a small contingent of diehard regulars from W.B. MASON. It was low-key up until about 8:30pm, when small groups of out-of-towners started to trickle in. When I say "out-of-towners", I'm talking about people from as close as Connecticut to as far away as Denmark and Japan. I started asking people if they were here visiting for a specific reason, and the majority said that they were in town for New Year's Eve and the Ball Drop in Times Square. So if my unscientific survey is in any way accurate, then this should be a busy New Year's Eve for the area establishments. And with the weather scheduled to be pretty tame (for this time of year), that could be a great thing. We'll see.
The bar ended up getting pretty busy after all. Throughout the night various people stopped by to get updates on MATT and to send their wishes, which was nice. From time to time I found myself turning away groups of people with fake ID's, which reminds me that the weekend will be a pain in the ass. New Year's Eve is the ultimate AMATEUR NIGHT, where you find a lot of underage kids drinking to excess and trying to get into the bars. It's usually worse than St. Patrick's Day, in my opinion, and I have a 15 year history that could back up my assessment. Time to get the game face on.
Tonite is our AFTER WORK HAPPY HOUR, with $3 Domestic Drafts and $5 Appletinis, Cosmos and Margaritas (5pm-9pm). Stop by!
