INVASION OF THE NYU GRAD STUDENTS...pt. II
Tuesday night was a bit unusual in that while the night was devoid of the regular Tuesday Night Dollar Draft Crowd, they were replaced by an invasion of NYU Graduate Students. Last week, NYU was represented by their medical students. This time around, the bulk of the crowd were from NYU's Stern School of Business. I guess this was their "Orientation Week" and part of their activities included a day of tennis at the U.S. Open, followed by cocktails at Third and Long.
The crew from NYU this time around, on a whole, seemed to be a bit more "arrogant" and stand-offish, as if everyone should cater to their whims. Why that was the case, hell if I know. I do know this: If I had to choose between the Medical students and the Business School students, based on what I experienced tonight, I'd take the Med students, hands down. The only bright spot of the evening (involving the NYU students, of course), was my encounter with a local female who apparently is a grad student at NYU. I've seen this young lady around the neighborhood for a couple of years now, and every time we see each other, we always acknowledge each other. She's a cute brunette who lives down the block from the bar and whenever I see her (which is almost every day), she's always walking her little dog.
So she comes into the bar and I was pleasantly surprised. As many times as I see her in the neighborhood, I don't think I've ever seen her in our bar. She came in with a friend and when our eyes met, there was that sense of familiarity that put the both of us at ease. She disappears into the crowd and that was pretty much it; She mingled with her group of friends and I concentrated on the goings on of the bar. We ended up getting pretty busy, so I forgot about her, until the end of the night. The bar had started to die out and I began to help the barback by collecting empty mugs from around the bar. At that point, I was startled by a soft whisper behind my ear:
"Need any help?"
I turned my head and it's her, standing in front of me, sultry smile on her face. I asked her to repeat herself, as I thought I was hearing things.
"Would you like some help with that?"
I begged her off, saying that I had things under control, but thanked her for the offer. She smiled again and walked away to her group of friends. As I watched her walk away, I couldn't help but to notice that this girl had a certain sexiness to her that was very appealing. I looked at her for a few more moments and then went on about my business.
About a half hour later, I noticed that she was gathering her things to leave. As she walked towards the door, she said good-bye. I found myself pulling her towards me and then:
"Hey listen. We see each other all the time yet I don't even know your name. I think we need to rectify that."
She gave me a sly smile and said "What's your name?" I told her my name and then I asked her the same question. "And what's your name?"
"Cigal"
"Excuse me? What was that again?"
"My name is Cigal."
I commented on how unusual her name was. Different, yet sexy. She laughed and said that she got that all the time. We then talked about where we lived. She was surprised to learn that I lived so close to her. She even joked that she was jealous that I lived so close to where I worked. I told her that it wasn't all roses but it was a great commute. We both laughed at that and continued to chit-chat a bit more before the rains started to fall again. I told her that she should probably get home before she got drenched. She promised to remember my name and that she was sure that she'll see me again. And with that, she left.
As I watched her walk down the block, I couldn't help but to think to myself, "Damn, that is one sexy babe".....
Highlight of my night, bar none.
