Follow the daily interactions of an affable bar manager of pretty cool and not-so-typical watering hole in NYC, in a not-so-typical neighborhood, Murray Hill. There may be some blurbs overheard at the bar, stimulating observations and random thoughts on random things. So be careful, you never know what might end up here....Enjoy and welcome to my world!

THE THINGS WE DO FOR LOVE....
Opened up the newspaper today and there's a picture of a grief-stricken JEANINE PIRRO, who's running for New York State Attorney General's Office. Throughout her campaign she's endured obstacle after obstacle; however, her latest situation looks to have doomed her chances at winning the upcoming election. Apparently she consulted with former NYPD Commish BERNARD KERIK to look into spying on her husband, whom she suspected of infidelity. Wanted him to plant a bug on her husband's boat to try and catch him in the act of cheating. Sordid stuff (read full story HERE).
The point of this story? How much are you willing to endure for love? To what lengths will you go to put your mind at ease that your mate's being faithful? Have you ever spied on your mate (tell the truth)? If you have to peer around corners or hire private investigators to make sure that your mate is being faithful, what's the point? Is it okay to do it? Feel free to share your views.
Came across a pretty cool website the other day: BRILLIANT BUT CANCELLED. For all of you TV aficionados, this site's great. It tracks all of the new shows of the season and places odds on which ones will get cancelled first. You can actually play along and predict which shows will outlast the others. There's already been one casualty of the early TV season: Fox's HAPPY HOUR (which lasted maybe two weeks?). Other shows on the "deathwatch" include ABC's MEN IN TREES, UGLY BETTY, CBS' JERICHO, and FOX's VANISHED and JUSTICE. You even have a chance to win prizes based on your predictions (and you know I live for that).
Speaking of new TV shows, RACHEL RAY has a new talk show. Fortunately for most of you, it's on while you're at work, so you don't have to endure this energizer bunny. This woman is like a buzzsaw, talks a mile a minute and has so much energy, you'd think she was sponsored by RED BULL. Exhausting to watch, in spite of her cuteness...
Finally, as we wrap up the regular baseball season, all eyes turn to the playoffs and what all NY'ers are hoping for: A SUBWAY SERIES. The NY YANKEES look to be in peak form heading into the playoffs, with all of their key players coming back just in time to produce; while the NY METS, hampered by numerous injuries to key personnel, are limping into the playoffs, looking like crap over the last week. No way to roll into the playoffs. While everyone is expecting both teams to make it to the World Series, I beg to differ. I am making a bold prediction right now that there WILL NOT be a SUBWAY SERIES this year, in spite of the great job done by both teams. If I am wrong, I will be the first one to eat crow. However, I don't see it happening this year. In any case, good luck to both teams going into the playoffs!
And finally, I've found my new favorite neighborhood deli- MURRAY HILL MARKET (East 34th/Lexington). This place was open years ago and then mysteriously closed down for "renovations" (which lasted a couple of years). Well it's finally reopened under new management and let me just say that I LOVE IT! First of all, it's nice, clean and offers a lot of choices for the foodie like myself. It's also open 24 hours, which is key. It has become what my former favorite deli used to be (before they sold out to new management, who's since turned it into a bodega). It offers FRESH stuff , from sandwiches, fruits, veggies, create-a-salad, etc. You name it, they probably have it. Check it out!

Bold prediction that there won't be a subway series? Either team could not make the finals, not so bold of a prediction. And what's with the specials, $4 lites on Thursdays and $1 taps on Tuesdays? I'll make sure to swing by on Tuesday and spend $25 plus tip instead of $100 plus tip. Does the day of the week really make a $75 difference? No offense, just wondering. Peace.
Well, B... Let me give you a little insight on the NYC psyche. It's expected amongst New Yorkers that both teams will be in the World Series. Anything less would be considered catastophic.
As for drink specials, the avg. price for a beer in NYC (in Murray Hill) is $5-6 for domestics, $5.50-7. for imports. So anytime you come across a beer special (or any drink special) is a good thing.
Mondays/Tuesdays are considered slow days in the bar/restaurant business, so you tend to try to entice folks to come out more on those days. The later part of the week people are prone to going out anyways, so you don't have to go as crazy on drink deals. Like I said, it's all about the NYC psyche.
There endeth the lesson.
Tuesday: not a traditionally busy night in the nyc bar scene and the $1 drafts are 8oz mugs of bud or bud light only
Thursday: Traditionally the busiest happy hour night for the corporate set in NYC and the $4 light beers includes 16oz pints and all bottled light beers (10 choices)
Mnay bars don't offer any specials at all for Thursday nights. Third and Long always has the best beer specials in Murray Hill.
I call him STRIKEOUT because here in Korea, a guy like that is called do-hwa, which translates to strikeout. Do-hwa always gets put down by women and he never "knows" why. Writing yours about American Psycho is always do-hwa.
Keep up the manu-blog,
