ODDS and ENDS.... and THANKSGIVING PLANS

Last night I had an opportunity to catch the film RUNNING WITH SCISSORS with ANNETTE BENNING and ALEC BALDWIN. It was one of those quirky dry comedies about a dysfunctional family (alcoholic father/bipolar mother) and an even more dysfunctional psychiatrist. Lots of quirky characters and funny scenes. Based on a true story. Not the best movie of the year, but definitely not the worst either. Worth a see.

While watching the movie, it made me think a bit about family times and how important they are, no matter how quirky they may be. Of course, that made me realize that Thanksgiving is only a week away! It seems like just yesterday when we were approaching Labor Day and now we are about to plunge into the Holiday Season (or the season from hell). Thanksgiving morphs into Christmas/Hanukkah and then right into New Year's Day. Talk about a whirlwind time of year! I am willing to bet that many of you probably haven't even made plans for Thanksgiving yet. It seems a bit early this year for some reason but yes, it's next week and approaching quickly.

I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving this season, as I was invited to spend it with a group of single folks who plan on being stranded here on Thanksgiving Day. NAPOLEON DYNAMITE and his lovely fiancee, SMURFETTE are planning a spread for us single losers, so it should be an interesting time, to say the least. Normally I turn down invitations for Thanksgiving because I don't like to impose on family holidays; I've even been called FONZIE from HAPPY DAYS (he would spend Christmas alone in his garage apartment, eating pork and beans from a can) for this in the past. But this time it's different, because I will be spending it with people in the same predicament as me. When you are served lemons, you make lemonade, right? So we are going to make the best of what would have been a quiet, boring day and make the best of it. It should be fun.

In the meantime, in the days leading up to the Thanksgiving break, we still have a lot of things going on here. Plenty of promos between now and then, great games (both college and pro), and of course, our annual Pre-Thanksgiving Day send-off next Wednesday (stay tuned for more details). Keep checking back here for all of the scoops.

Not sure if you noticed, but I put up a GPS map of the world so that we can see where all of our blog fans are logging in from. It's fascinating to me to see where are readers are logging in from (then again, maybe I'm easily impressed). Check it out (see lower right of page).

CONGRATS and sadly, FAREWELL to our own RUNNING MAN, who recently gained entry into the FDNY Academy. His last day with us will be this Saturday. He was a great employee for the bar, and an even better friend. I wish him the best of luck in his new venture and i'm sure he'll be back soon.

Finally, here are some more pictures from last Friday night- thanks FREEJACK for the photo submission. As always, if anyone has anything that they want to share on the blog, simply email me (click on my profile on the upper right of the page) and I'll make sure to get it on for you.

I must have clicked on 8 times today waiting and waiting for the posting and I was going to complain but then I remembered you just had a birthday and being one year older might have something to do with it. But anyway, might explain the red dot on Milwaukee.

You know I love stealing cool shit off your page. I'm stealing the map thingy too. Of course no one reads my blog so all the dots will be from me in Milwaukee--hahahaha.
