GIANTS and JETS... DOWN IN FLAMES....

Yesterday was playoff -time for the football locals as both teams had pivotal matches against rival teams; both local teams were also playing on the road. I was interested in seeing which game would draw the bigger crowd since both teams would be out of town. The first game featured the NY Jets against their dreaded rival, the New England Patriots. The rivalry is an intense one and sure to draw its share of fans from both teams.

Interestingly enough, it seemed that the bar attracted more fans of the Giants than the Jets. Why that was the case, i'm not sure but there was definitely a spike in attendance for the late game than the early one.

As for the highlights, there were, of course a few. The day started out with Mr. Early Bird himself, AFRIKA BAMBATTA being the first to arrive. No sooner than he sat down did I put him to work by sending him to the Wine Store for some provisions for the bar. Of course, he left grumbling, but then again, he does that anyways. As soon as he returned from the store did He find himself being dispatched on another errand; this time by NAPOLEON DYNAMITE, who needed his assistance in moving some new furniture up to his apartment. Of course, my charcoal-broiled comrade was none too pleased by the thought of actually having to work on his day of drinking. By the time all was said and done, the poor bastard was breaking a sweat.

There was a new group of "misfits" who piled into the bar wearing Jets gear. I've seen a few of them around in the past; Harmless folks but just a tad bit "geeky" for my tastes. Among the group there were some women who belonged to a club (a private one) for older, single women and every month they would plan gatherings at various clubs and restaurants with the idea of meeting men. It looked as if they'd scheduled their meeting at the bar as women after (ahem) women continued to stroll in to see their friends. It was an interesting sight. Most of them were wearing Jets jerseys.

There was this one fan in particular who was a tad bit out of control; too much of a "rah-rah" type; so much so that it even got NAPOLEON DYNAMITE stirred up- to the point that he sent the guy a shot just to shut him up.

This guy was a piece of work. He was probably the loudest guy in the bar, even as louder than MR. CHIPS, and we know how loud he gets when his beloved Giants play. Bless his heart...

By all indications it was business as usual as the bar was inundated by regulars looking to have a good time. Some of those in attendance, included AFRIKA BAMBATTA, T-BILL, REDSKINS GIRL, MR. CHIPS, BABY DOLL, JON CUSACK, DIRTY SANCHEZ (or should I dar say "lucky Sanchez"); SILENT BOB, THE MAYOR of MURRAY HILL, FIREMARSHALL ED, among others. The usual bantering went about throughout the afternoon, some funny, other moments a bit more intense- definitely lively though.

I'm sure i've forgotten a story or two but i'm sure these pictures will help jog someone's memory. It was good to see people out and about all weekend long and it's safe to say that the "holiday hangover" is now a thing of the past.
