ONCE BITTEN, TWICE SHY....

As I mentioned in a previous post, I'd been feeling under the weather all week, thanks to a flu bug going around. I'd find myself trying to bombard myself with mega doses of Vitamin C, TheraFlu, Robitussin, etc.; anything to help kick this flu bug. There's nothing worse then being sick, especially when it's so nice outside as it was this week. The early part of the week started out with the constant coughing and hocking up of that gooey stuff and as the week went on, I could feel the bug gradually travel its way up to my sinuses. By last night, the coughing had pretty much stopped, but now my head felt like it weighed a ton and my nose was running like a faucet. It was actually funny to see me checking ID's and reaching for a Kleenex every once in awhile. Very manly indeed.

The night itself was a slow one. In fact, it was so slow, that I thought we would set a record for the slowest Thursday since I could remember. I even sent our barback home early, since there was no need in having one, it was so slow.

A member of the Merseyside (Liverpool, England) Fire and Rescue Service, enjoying a pint...

However, as luck would have it, as soon as the barback leaves to go home, a HUGE red FDNY bus pulled up and out bounces a large contingent of soccer players from England. Turns out, there's an International Fire Department Soccer Tournament taking place in Queens this weekend. Teams from such countries like the United States, Canada, England, The Netherlands, Italy and Germany, just to name a few are in town to compete and to, of course, have fun. The team that came by last night were from Liverpool, England. A very lively and nice bunch of guys, they definitely gave the bar a shot in the arm. It seemed that as soon as they came in, people began coming in off the streets, like a magnet. Safe to say they made our night. By the end of the night, the team had proclaimed Third and Long as their new home for the weekend, so it's safe to say you'll see these guys around all weekend.

By the end of the night, it looked as if the flu bug took its toll on the staff. We barely made it out of the bar under our own power; As a matter of fact, one of the bartenders actually had to leave because she couldn't stand anymore, that's how bad she felt. Luckily for me, I think I can see the light at the end of my tunnel as I am slowly getting back to normal. Ugh. What a pain in the ass.

I think I need a vacation....
