A convicted sex offender was arrested for fatally bludgeoning a former gay lover in a Murray Hill apartment, authorities said yesterday.
The bust came after cops matched saliva left on a beverage can to the suspect's DNA profile, authorities said yesterday.
Nick Sorrentino, 61, of Paterson, N.J., was busted on July 10 and held without bail following his arraignment on a murder charge, the DA's Office said.
Sorrentino is accused of repeatedly smashing José Raul Prieto, 70, in the head with a fire extinguisher and then strangling him in his apartment on East 35th Street.
Prieto's body was discovered on May 16 by his brother, who became concerned after he wasn't able to get in touch.
According to the New Jersey State Police sex-offender Web site, Sorrentino once sexually assaulted a 3-year-old female relative.
Wow.
