NO-RAP-WEDNESDAY?
Last night was a pretty good night for a Wednesday; We had a good turnout in general, due in part to a combination of factors:
1) It was NAPOLEON DYNAMITE's birthday and a few of his good friends and workmates showed up to toast him. Among the well-wishers was a blast from the past- CRIMSON CAMEL-TOE. It was great to see her- she brought me up to speed on what's doing in her life and it sounds like she's in a good place (btw, the thong color of the night was black) these days. Good stuff.
2) We had a nice contingent of nurses that stopped by throughout the course of the night. One "newbie" in particular, just finished her first day at NYU Medical and was checking out the bar for the first time. Cute little thing, though I wonder if she's a bit naive when it comes to certain things. For example, someone had mentioned something about the infamous "Champagne Room" in the back of the bar. Without batting an eye, she said aloud, "Champagne Room? Do they serve Kristal there?" I shit you not. Doll baby was dead serious too. Line of the night by far.
3) PBR cans. Folks are into 'em. When you're getting them a 5/$10.00 a clip, even the snootiest Wall Street guys were jumping on the bandwagon. One guy in particular showed up to meet his friends at around 6pm, right after they'd ordered their first round of PBR's. They asked him if he wanted one- he turned up his nose and declined, asking for a Magner's Cider instead. SIX HOURS and multiple rounds of PBR's later, we ended up having to pry away his last can and "escort" him out the door because the chooch could barely stand.
4) Classic Rock. Tonight I decided to go with a Classic Rock theme all night long instead of our usual mish-mash of oldies and new stuff. It turned out to be a hit with the crowd. They really enjoyed listening to the classics. So maybe I'll turn Wednesday into "NO-RAP WEDNESDAYS". Any thoughts?
I also got to meet MR. LOW-KEY's siblings last night. It seems that they are in town visiting from the south somewhere (I think North Carolina) and decided to come into the city to hang out with their brother. After taking them to a Mets game, the siblings came back to the bar to knock back some cold ones. They were pretty cool and really look a lot like each other. I see where the dry sense of humor comes from.
I have to say again that Wednesday night turned out to be a good night after all.
Stay tuned for more updates!
