Follow the daily interactions of an affable bar manager of pretty cool and not-so-typical watering hole in NYC, in a not-so-typical neighborhood, Murray Hill. There may be some blurbs overheard at the bar, stimulating observations and random thoughts on random things. So be careful, you never know what might end up here....Enjoy and welcome to my world!

INTERN HELL
Ah, Interns. You know who they are- those college kids who pile into the city for the summer, most of them working menial jobs at prestigious firms while gaining experience for their fields of study. You can spot the Intern a mile away- ill-fitting suits, baby faced and eager to go crazy over Dollar Drafts, while putting them on their freshly-minted credit cards.
They present an interesting scenario in that we're always happy to see them when they first arrive in May or June. Fresh faces to brighten up the summer months, they also fill our coffers very well, even though most of them tip like they are British.
By the time the internships end for the summer, the Intern has more or less worn out their welcome. By now most of them have either moved back home or geting ready to finish out their last few days. This normally means a huge night out for the Interns, usually on the dime of their benefactors. While the extra hit of cashflow is always nice, it is never without problems. The last couple of weeks becomes to the bar staff, INTERN HELL.
INTERN HELL is literally a pain in the ass. Girls are walking around town, briefcases in hand and a beer in another. Frat Boys are doing Irish Car Bombs and casualties are becoming plentiful. At least one person becomes "That Guy" every night and pukes, either in the toilet, on a window, or god forbid, on the bar. So as much as we like them when they come, we love them more when they leave.
Met a TV crew from ESPN late night last night. They rolled in, about 15 deep, all ready to plunk down and to seek liquid nousihment. They had been filming MADDEN NATION the last 22 days and were ready for a break. We had some classic rock playing in the background and that made for a relaxing "late nite".
The bar itself has had a good week; I'm seeing more and more of these "good days" of late and that works for me, considering that our busy season is coming up. August is typically a slow month due to vacations and such, but I think we'll do fine. I have planned a few Fantasy Football Draft Parties for the next few weeks leading up to the season opener and the beginning of the busy season; Look out for more details!
