August 8, 2007 -- National Underwear Day was nothing but a panty waste for New Yorkers yesterday - many admitted that they don’t wear any.

“I go commando so there’s no lines - even thongs leave lines,” 20-year-old student Ashley Leveling boldly declared in Times Square, steps away from a bevy of models from Freshpair wearing nothing but their underwear to promote designer duds.

“Not wearing any lets you breathe a little bit,” Leveling said, adding that when she last wore a black cocktail dress to a school event, she didn’t bother putting anything on underneath.

“I don’t care. No one saw,” she said. “It’s just more comfortable.”

Leveling was one of a dozen women who told The Post during an undercover survey that they paid no attention to the Freshpair campaign - because they prefer to leave their drawers at home.

But Freshpair lingerie model Lindsey Smith was doing something just as daring as going pantyless, even if she had all of her underwear on.

Of course, underwear was all she had on.

The model was paid to strut her stuff through Times Square in only her bra and panties as part of the campaign.

Christine McNicholas, 18, said tossing underwear aside gives her one less thing to think about in the morning, while Stephanie Delserro, 19, said it’s way more “comfortable.”

“I never wear them,” she said.

I personally think there's something to this new "phenomenon" taking place with the women of NEW YORK; there has been a few instances where I've gotten "glimpses" of women in skirts sporting nothing (or I thought was nothing) and simply chalked it up to me "just seeing things". Apparently I wasn't "just seeing things", I guess.
