MET MAGIC RUNNING OUT?

Although it's officially the Fall season and everyone's minds is on football, there's still a pennant race going on in baseball. A month ago everyone expected the Amazin's to run away with their division and stamp a ticket to the World Series, while the NY Yankees were struggling just to make it to .500, let alone even sniff at a possibility at the playoffs.

Boy how the tide has turned. The Yankees found new life and righted their ship and are in hot pursuit, not only for a playoff spot, but as of today, find themselves a mere 1.5 games out of first place in their division. With one week to go, they have a real chance to win their division over their hated arch-rivals, the Boston Red Sox.

Meanwhile, the NY Mets find themselves in a virtual freefall and find themselves in real danger of not only losing their grip of the division lead they held for most of the season- but they could easily find themselves out of the playoff chase altogether. Note this fact: Six days ago, the Mets held a 7.5 game lead over second-place Philadelphia Phillies. Now the lead has been cut to 2.5 games. A five game swing in less than a week! If that isn't a meltdown, I don't know what is.

Now Met fans, keep your hopes alive; They will probably right the ship at the last moment and hold on to their playoff position. But I'd be very worried if I were you, nevertheless. The last thing you want is for your team to "crawl" their way into the playoffs. And in the oft-chance that your team does choke and find themselves on the outside looking in, there's always America's Team, the Cleveland Indians.

They always have room on their bandwagon.

"LITE NITE THURSDAYS" ($4.00, all LIGHT beers, 4pm - 1opm). Mets vs Marlins @ 7pm; Texas A&M vs Miami @ 8pm.

DON'T FORGET ABOUT THE MATT LONG /NY BLOOD CENTER BLOOD DRIVE this Saturday at Third and Long, 12pm - 5:30pm.

In December 2005, Firefighter Matthew Long (L-43) was riding his bike to work when he had a near fatal accident. Since then, he has used hundreds of units of blood in his recovery. Simply put, blood donations saved his life. Now he and the New York Blood Center are asking for your help to donate blood this weekend!

We are shooting for a goal of 40 PINTS, so we are in need of a good turnout! We'll also be giving out Mets tickets for every pint donated, so if you are in the neighborhood and want to do a good deed for a great cause, stop by and donate a pint!!!

I'll bet you can't figure out who the Spankee's play in the first round of the playoffs, regardless if they win the East or not?
