ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL???

That is the question of the day as weeks of fantasy football drafts, conversations, trade scenarios, predictions, boasts and hype lead up to tonight's opening kickoff of the 2007-08 NFL season. In years past, baseball was always looked upon as America's Pastime. Kids and adults alike would sit around the tv (or radio for some of you "older folk") and be riveted to the teams they were loyal to.

But along the way something happened. Baseball got stale; they had player/owner issues leading to strikes that would last weeks, even months. Salaries grew out of control, egos grew out of control, everything about the game itself got pushed to the backburner, while off-the-field issues took center stage. Fans grew angry and tired and eventually began to walk away from the game.

At the same time, the NFL was slowly but surely building their brand of national entertainment and pretty soon, it began to rival Major League Baseball in popularity. The game was physical, easy to follow(once a week); It had its share of colorful egos, and it proved to have an appeal to the hard-working American blue collar ethic. And once you attached the fantasy aspect to football, the sport exploded and now it is the #1 sport in America, bar none. Which leads me back to the original question: ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL???

Tonight's opening game is a great way to open the season, with the defending Super Bowl Champion INDIANAPOLIS COLTS unveiling their championship banner, before taking the field against the NEW ORLEANS SAINTS. An entertaining matchup indeed. Festivities begin at 8pm and you can bet we will be on top of the action!

HAPPY TRAILS.......

So there's this "taxi strike" taking place in our fair city. Except that only a handful of taxis are taking part in the strike. Yet everyone who take taxis are being affected by it because now you have to pay a "set-price zone fare" (which is confusing as hell); and you may have to share a cab with a stranger (which sucks ass and ultimately makes your ride that much longer). What are they striking over? GPS systems. Not wages, not health insurance, not gas prices... but GPS satellite systems. Apparently they don't want their bosses knowing where they are while they are out in the streets. Are you kidding me? You try to cripple the city with a strike because you don't want your bosses knowing whether or not you're on the road? I give up trying to figure out the madness. Just bring me my chicken soup.

THURSDAY NIGHT: "Lite Nite" Thursday ($4.00, ALL LIGHT BEERS- 4pm - 10pm); We're also having a MALIBU RUM promotion taking place during the evening, complete with the Malibu Rum Bunnies. Hmmmmm... bunnies!
