SKATING ON THIN ICE....
I just received a "jab" from one of the readers regarding my favorite hockey team, the OTTAWA SENATORS and their recent team woes. In what started out as a fantastic season for my SENS, they've admittedly fallen on hard times of late; The team has slumped so badly that they even resorted to firing the coach with only 18 games left in the regular season.
Now if you look at the standings, the team has faltered a lot since the All-Star break; They were number one in the Eastern Conference for most of the season (now they're #2). The Sens still lead their division, however, it seems that management was worried about the direction the team was headed, going into the playoffs. Better to make some changes now with the hopes of righting the ship before the difficult playoff run begins. I understand the rationale for change, but it still stinks to see a guy lose a job because his players aren't playing up to snuff. I hope this change works out for the best for the Sens, or I'll never hear the end of it from the local hockey fans.
Speaking of local fans, the N.J. DEVILS have quietly played outstanding hockey of late and have since taken over the top spot from my Senators. The NY RANGERS and ISLANDERS have found a way to stay in the thick of the playoff hunt and if things break right, we may have all three local teams in the playoffs come April. That should bode well for hockey fans as well as the bar, since we carry all of the NHL games. Stay tuned.....
Last night was a pretty good night, considering that it was brutally cold outside. A fairly large contingent of females took advantage of the $3.00 Mixed Well Drink special (which is always nice). We also had a visit from the Australian Rugby Boys, who were amped up to hit the dollar draft specials... except that it was wrong night for dollar drafts. The disappointed looks on their faces was priceless. The Champagne Room got a lot of use last night, which was kinda unusual. Then again, it was a cold night, and you may as well cozy up with somebody...
*One other note- it seemed that there were more than a few folks who were in no hurry to go home for some reason.... What's that all about? Overall, not bad for a Wednesday night.
AND FINALLY....
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to JESI, one of my favorite patrons! Hope you have a great b-day!
