(Taken by one of our faithful blog readers on the corner of East 51st and 1st Ave. )At around 2:30pm on what was a bright, sunny and lovely day, a very large crane posted at a construction site on East 51st street tipped over and collapsed into a series of apartment buildings, wiping out a bar/restaurant in the process. That's about 16 blocks from here.
As of 6:30pm, 4 people were declared dead, 10 seriously injured and 3 are in critical condition. Victims are still being dug out of the collapsed buildings. Blocks are closed off and traffic is at serious gridlock mode as emergency services are trying to get the situation under control.
Talk about bizarre events. Wow. More updates when we get them.
