Follow the daily interactions of an affable bar manager of pretty cool and not-so-typical watering hole in NYC, in a not-so-typical neighborhood, Murray Hill. There may be some blurbs overheard at the bar, stimulating observations and random thoughts on random things. So be careful, you never know what might end up here....Enjoy and welcome to my world!

MARCH OF THE ELEPHANTS.
Last night was the Annual Ringling Bros. Elephant Parade, a ritual that takes place every year. Ringling Bros. marches their elephants through the Midtown Tunnel (which exits right near our bar), and up 34th Street towards Madison Square Garden to promote their arrival to New York City. To pay homage to the pachyderms, we usually throw a party to commemorate the event, which brings a good turnout every year. Last night was no exception as the bar was fairly packed with curious elephant seekers and fans of Dollar Draft Madness. I was particularly impressed with the turnout, seeing that St. Patrick's Day was the day before; I was expecting a post-hangover from that day's festivities.
The elephants were scheduled to arrive at about midnight; However, if you've been to any of these exhibitions, then you know that they never arrive on time. As the clock hit midnight, the crowds began to swell along the parade route, expecting to see the parade on time. Of course, I was correct on assuming that the elephants were going to be late- they ended up arriving at 12:50am!! Luckily it wasn't that cold outside, and the rains hadn't arrived yet.
Once the elephants finally emerged from the tunnel, the crowd went nuts and of course they went sprinting after them as they walked by. That's always my favorite part of the whole parade- watching the knuckleheads run after the elephants like little kids. Good stuff.
After the elephant parade ended, the bar usually clears out and everyone goes home (it's after 1am at this point). However, this time most of the patrons came back and stuck around. So it turned out to be a really good night.
This is turning out to be a good week so far. NEXT UP: March Madness 2008!
TONIGHT: Ladies Night tonight with $3.00 Mixed Well Drinks for ladies and Coors Light Buckets (5/$15.00) for everyone!

*Before I sign off, I just want to thank my staff for a job well done the past few days; I know it's been hectic and a lot of work, but you were able to pull it off without a hitch. Kudos and thanks again!
