RANGERS FIRE FIRST SALVO IN BATTLE OF NEW YORK!

The NHL Playoffs began last night with four games on highlighted by a couple of East Coast matchups: The NY Rangers traveled across the river to New Jersey to face the Devils, while the Ottawa Senators traveled to Pittsburgh to face the Penguins.

We had a pretty decent hockey crowd in tow for the games; There was some disgruntlement early on between Rangers' fans and Senators' faithful. The Canadians in NYC, a group of Canadian Expats made reservations to have the Senators/Pens game with sound a few days earlier; Of course, Ranger fans wanted to hear their game and when told that the sound was reserved for another game, there was some grumbling and whining. Some disgruntled Ranger fans whined so much that they actually left. After the first period, when it became apparent that there wasn't going to be as many Canadians as expected, I finally switched the sound to the Rangers/Devils game.

The Rangers ended up winning their game convincingly, 4-1, pleasing the Ranger fans that remained; The fans of the Senators, on the other hand (myself included), were disappointed with the effort shown by their team. They got crushed by Pittsburgh, 4-0. Ugly.

There were two late games as well, Colorado vs Minnesota (in overtime as I write this), and Calgary vs San Jose (Calgary was leading 3-1, end of 2nd as I write this).

Overall, the action on the ice was intense while the fans seemed to be really into it. Look forward to a long season of playoff action!

On another note, towards the end of the night, a cute brunette came into the bar with two guys. They were dressed up in Billyburg-chic outfits and were pretty outgoing, probably due in part to the amount of booze they probably had earlier.

As it turns out, they were at a TV taping of some reality show called "America's Got Talent". Don't know what it is, never seen it, but apparently it had DAVID HASSELHOFF as either a host, guest or judge. Wasn't really that clear on what his purpose on the show was.

The young lady of the group goes on to tell us that they went to an after-party for the show and were approached by David Hasselhoff's agent who presented the young lady with a signed 4x6 photo of "The 'Hoff" himself. On the back of the photo, however, was a written note from the agent suggesting that she call he and "The 'Hoff"; Also listed his cellphone number as well as the number to the hotel that they were staying in (The London in Manhattan). How creepy is that? The group also said that our friend "The 'Hoff" was pretty wasted.

Again, how creepy is that? That seems more and more to be the theme of this entire week so far. It was pretty funny to hear that story though, I must admit.

More later!

Nuff Said
