THE SAD TALE OF A DIE-HARD SOCCER SUPPORTER...

Yesterday, yours truly made his yearly trek to Shea Stadium to catch the NY Mets. Now I'm not a Met fan by any stretch, but I don't mind catching an occasional game here or there. As a Cleveland Indians fan, I don't get much opportunity to see my team live, so I'll catch any live game whenever possible.

Another reason to go to Shea this year was because it will be the last year that the stadium will be used for professional baseball before moving to its new stadium next door, Citi Field. So I figured, "What the hell?". Let's go check it out.

I brought with me NAPOLEON DYNAMITE and MR. CHIPS (my original plan was to take ANGRY BLACK for his last game before moving west, but he couldn't make it), and of course, that made for endless possibilities for hi-jinks.

NAPOLEON DYNAMITE and THE SWANFATHER taking in the game...

NAPOLEON still feeling the after-effects of a long weekend in Vegas...

The new CITI FIELD looming in the background, nearing completion...

The game itself was a joke, as the NY Mets laid a big fat egg, losing to the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates, 13-1. We left before it got totally out of hand, eager to get back to the bar in time to catch the end of the LIVERPOOL/CHELSEA Champions League Semi-Final match.

When we got back to the bar, there were quite a few folks inside, fixated on the match. Center of attention was THAT DAY BARTENDER GUY, cheering hard for his team, while a small group of Chelsea supporters was giving him the business. They say a picture paints a thousand words; Imagine what a video can do.....

Talk about hilarious! The poor guy was running back and forth, emotions ranging from fear to joy to anger. He really did look like a hamster in a cage....

As you can see, end of the match didn't provide the results that our friend was looking for. Talk about devastation! I love it.

The rest of the night proved to be rather enjoyable as well, with a nice mixed crowd enjoying hockey, baseball and Coors Light buckets. It actually turned out to be a late night, as we didn't get out of here until after 3am. Good stuff indeed.

TONIGHT:

RANGER vs PENGUINS (GAME 4- 7PM). This is DO or DIE time for the Blueshirts as they have their season and their pride on the line tonight. Win, and live to see another day. LOSE... and it's tee time at Winged Foot for the summer.

"LITE NITE THURSDAYS" with $4.00 Light Beers (bottles/drafts) and Miller Lite Buckets (5/15.00) from 4pm -10pm
