THRILLING FINISH!
Last night featured a series of thrilling finishes in both the NHL and the NBA playoffs and the patrons of Third and Long were the beneficiary of it all. In the NBA, we saw the L.A. Lakers and the Boston Celtics, last year's NBA finalists get pushed to a Game 7 matchup this weekend when the Houston Rockets and Orlando Magic pulled out much needed victories against them, much to the chagrin/delight of the fans in the bar.
In the NHL, we had another instance where there were two Game 7's taking place in the same night, practically at the same time. We saw a similar instance in the first round when the Carolina Hurricanes defeated the NJ Devils, while the Washington Capitals knocked out the NY Rangers.
This time around we found the Capitals and the Hurricanes back in a similar position, playing in yet another Game 7; This time, however, luck would not be on the Washington Capitals side as they lost out to Pittsburgh on Wednesday night. The Hurricanes, however, continued to ride on the coattails of lady luck as they were able to squeeze yet another road victory in Game 7, this time against the top-seed Boston Bruins. In overtime, mind you. So the Eastern Conference finals features the Pittsburgh Penguins against the Carolina Hurricanes.
The other Game 7 last night featured the Detroit Red Wings (defending champs) and the 8th seeded Anaheim Ducks. This game turned out to be a nail biter as well as the feisty Ducks gave the Red Wings all they could handle before the defending champs delivered the final blow with about three minutes left in the game. The victory catapults the Red Wings into the Western Conference finals against the young and feisty Chicago Blackhawks.
There's your final four. Should be a great round of hockey.
We had a great crowd for all of the games last night and putting the sound on for the games proved to be a good move as practically everyone at the bar, fans and non-fans alike were caught up in all of the action.
