We're currently in the middle of a heatwave that has New York City baking under brutal temperatures averaging in the low 90's and a ton of humidity. If you are a follower of this blog, you'll know that this is the worst kind of weather for yours truly simply because it's gross and unbearable to deal with. So instead of being out and about, enjoying all that this wonderful city has to offer, I find myself taking shelter in the bar under our AC; Feeling much like Superman after being hit with kryptonite. It's disgusting. And unfortunately folks, there's no end in sight to this disgusting weather as we're supposed to deal with this for most of the week. Ugh.
One thing I'm excited about is the start of the European soccer season. The English Premier League kicked off over the weekend and as a fan of ASTON VILLA, I have high hopes of them making a challenge for the top four slots and a berth in the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE. Speaking of CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, the nine-month tournament of European Club Champions kick off today with some great matchups, led by ARSENAL vs CELTIC (2:30pm). Definitely looking forward to that. Of course, we'll carry all of the matchups throughout the season!
Last night, pre-season football was the topic of the bar as the NY Giants faced off against the Carolina Panthers. While I am not a big fan of pre-season football (it's pointless to me), it did turn out to be a good game, with the Giants pulling out a last-second victory, 24-17.
However, what was more interesting was the number of Miami Dolphins fans that turned up to Third and Long to see their team play the Jacksonville Jaguars. We're the home base of the Miami Dolphins Fan Club for NYC so of course they would show up expecting to see their team on TV. Problem was, their game was blacked out here in NYC. So imagine the number of irate Dolphins fans who were shut out of seeing their team. Unfortunately, it was out of our control as DIRECT TV 's NFL package does not include pre-season games. Sorry!
DOLLAR DRAFT MADNESS takes over Third and Long tonight with $1 mugs of Bud/Bud Light from 4pm to close. Swing by after work and get out of the heat!
