WEEKEND RECAP

Sorry for the late recap; been dealing with bar-related issues most of the day. The past weekend was a busy one filled with a flurry of activity.

FRIDAY night was a rainy one, but the rain didn't deter the fans of DONOVAN and CARRION from turning out to enjoy a live acoustic set of rock music. The band didn't let their fans down, playing well past midnight and to repeated calls of "One more song!". They did a good job and they will be back in the upcoming months.

SATURDAY was devoted to preparing for the big PPV boxing event featuring MANNY PACQUIAO and MIGUEL COTTO. Now we carry a lot of events but this was one of the rare events that we actually charged a cover for and the phone was ringing off the hook for reservations. I was running on 3 hours of sleep and feeling like crap for most of the week when my day began bright and early at 8am. We had a construction project scheduled for earlier in the day and that turned out to be a bit of a fiasco. We got a delivery of construction related materials (sheet rock, wood, etc.) and no contractor to oversee the delivery; so I had to pitch in with our resident porter, NACHO LIBRE to unload the truck and bring it into the bar. Between me being under the weather and having to unload the truck in the rain didn't do much for my demeanor. Even THE DON got involved and pitched in to get the materials in. A royal pain in my ass and a sign of things to come.

Throughout the afternoon I found myself going back and forth to the bar to get little things done for this event. So any chances of getting some rest for my illness went right out the window. But you do what you have to do to insure that everything goes off without a hitch. By the time the undercard of the fight began, we were practically sold out. By 10pm, we were turning people away at the door. By the time the main event took place (around midnight), the place was brimming with excitement...

The fight went off without a hitch (sans a few "overserved" individuals getting tossed out) and the fans of MANNY PACQUIAO went home happy as their hero put on a clinic by dispatching COTTO via TKO in 12 rounds. Overall, a pretty good night. The only downside: my camera finally died. R.I.P. I guess I finally have to get a new camera.

SUNDAY found us rebounding from the fight to get right back into the swing of things with BREW CREW SUNDAYS. Most of the regulars were back after a brief hiatus and they held court in the front part of the bar, while the MIAMI DOL-FANS Football Club took their place in the back of the bar to watch their team take on the Tampa Bay Bucs. The usual suspects were keeping the mood light in the front end of the bar: AFRIKA BAMBATTA, THE CORNER BOYS, T-BILL, SILENT BOB and DIRTY SANCHEZ, SEXY LEXY and her female posse, SEAN JEAN were some of the culprits who had us in stitches most of the afternoon. BABY GIRL, WINNIE COOPER, JON CUSACK, AMERICAN PSYCHO and MR. LOW-KEY showed up later to add to the mix.

Later in the afternoon, we got to watch the ARETE AWARDS, where MATT LONG was one of the award recipients for courage in sports. The crowd in attendance was moved by his story and you could actually see some of them in tears as his story was being told. Very powerful and inspirational indeed.

Overall, it was a very busy and fun-filled weekend. Now we re-load and start all over again, beginning with MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL tonight. While the matchup isn't the greatest on paper (Baltimore vs Cleveland), we also have NHL hockey on tap as well as NCAA hoops; plus there's always the lure of $1 mugs of Bud/Bud Light/Coors Light (or $2 mugs, all other domestic drafts), ALL NIGHT LONG).

Coming up next: MOVEMBER UPDATE/BREAKING NEWS!

That's It. That's All I Got.
