A DAY OF POWER SHIFTS, PARTY PEOPLE.... AND JOSH DUHAMEL???

Yesterday's edition of BREW CREW SUNDAY was a festive affair, filled with great games and the usual dose of debauchery that typically comes with our Sunday afternoons. Highlights of the day include the following:

I think we're beginning to see the changing of the guard in the NFL as the New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers both suffered embarrassing losses again and now find themselves in danger of possibly missing the playoffs. The New England Patriots lost consecutive games for the first time since god-knows-when and the swagger has clearly disappeared from this team, especially its defense. Tom Brady looks mortal these days and the Belichick mystique is no longer feared.

The Pittsburgh Steelers, on the other hand, has become a tale of two teams: A much feared team when Troy Polamalu is in the line-up and a patsy of a team when he's out. This is evidenced by their recent losses to bottom-feeder teams Kansas City and now Oakland during a four-game losing streak. Both teams, once feared, are no longer in that category and with the rising of teams like New Orleans, Minnesota, Arizona and of course, Indianapolis, nothing last forever, including dynasties.

THE DOLFANS of Miami found reason to celebrate as their dwindling playoff hopes got a major boost with their win over the fading N.E. Patriots, much to the chagrin of the other bar patrons. The addition of the DOLFANS to the bar has been a mixed blessing as the season unfolds. While their enthusiasm for their team is admirable and brings life to the bar each week, the snarky attitude from a few "bad apples" of the group often brings out negative feelings from the long-time regulars who don't appreciate the crass behavior on their turf. Examples include demanding all of the TV's for themselves, snotty attitudes towards the bartending staff, non-tipping, leaving garbage all over the place, etc.

Again, overall, the DOLFANS have been a great addition to the bar, however, there's always a few bad apples within every group and this group is no exception. The hard part is striking the balance to keep everyone happy.

During the second half of the afternoon, while the NY Giants were taking it to the Dallas Cowboys and the Sunday Brew Crew were in full-blown party mode, a mysterious face made his way into the bar and took a seat in the back. As it turned out, it was JOSH DUHAMEL (of "Transformers" and "Las Vegas" fame; also husband of Black-Eyed Peas singer, FERGIE). He's been in town filming a movie ("The Romantics") with KATIE HOLMES. Turns out he's a big fan of the Minnesota Vikings and was there to catch the game with friends of our own BABY GIRL. He was very down to earth and no one bothered him, though there were plenty of females trying to sneak a glance at him (he's a pretty tall dude).
He left after the first half of the Vikings/Cardinals game the same way he came in: very unassuming.

It's amazing what alcohol does for a conversation. I was sitting at the bar at the end of my shift, trying to do some work on the computer and catching up with some of the patrons when I couldn't help but to overhear some of the conversations of some clearly-inebriated patrons nearby. Some of the coversation went from job-related advice to body-image issues to body-parts in general and it kept sliding down that slippery slope to god-knows-when. Now these folks apparently didn't realize how loud they were talking but it was loud enough to make me pause in mid-sentence a few times. Oy vey. If these folks could only hear snippets of themselves the next day.

Overall, it was another busy, successful day at the bar; one where everyone seemed to have a great time. We're approaching crunch time in the football season and many of the playoff spots will go down to the last few weeks before being claimed, which is great for business. Looking forward to that. In the meantime, I'm going to finally pick up a new camera as it's been too long since I've posted pics on this page.

Monday Night Football and Dollar Mugs tonight. Mugs start at 4pm, while the game (Baltimore vs Green Bay) kicks off at around 8pm.

AND FINALLY: TIGERGATE continues to run full steam ahead with the number of mistresses approaching the same number as the burgers sold at McDonald's. That being said, T-BILL hit me with this HYSTERICAL you tube video of the infamous voice mail he left on one of the mistresses' cell phone:

CHRISTMAS DECORATING SUCKS.

Sorry for the late post; I got sucked into bar decorating duty at the bar and it pretty much took up most of the day. So I have just enough time to list what's happening this weekend. I'll try to catch up with more pertinent stuff later.

TONIGHT: "After-Work Happy Hour" (5-9pm), featuring $4 Domestic Drafts & Mixed Well Drinks! Catch the Montreal Canadiens 100th Anniversary Game vs Boston (pre-game: 6:30pm). NHL Center Ice and NBA action takes place tonight.

SATURDAY: "Kick the Keg" Saturday rules the day with great college football action and $2 mugs, ALL BEERS ON TAP* (12-7pm); HOCKEY NIGHT in CANADA promo follows with a slate of NHL games, $4 Labatt's Blue pints and $20 Labatt's Blue/Molson Golden buckets (7pm-midnight). NY RANGERS vs MONTREAL TICKET GIVEAWAY (Jan 17)!

SUNDAY: "Brew Crew Sunday" is the theme of the day with plenty of NFL Football on tap, led by New England vs Miami (1pm) and NY Giants vs Dallas (4:15p); $4 Bud/Bud Light pints during ALL NFL games! Home of the Miami DOLFANS Club!

So make a note of our events and plan on making it at least one day this weekend!

GANG GREEN or GANGRENE?

The once-proud NY Jets are at a crossroads in their season as they travel north of the border to Toronto, Canada to face their division rival, the Buffalo Bills.

The Jets, free-falling of late, are in dire need of a victory if they want to stay in the hunt for a wild-card spot. The rookie wonderboy QB, MARK SANCHEZ has experienced his share of growing pains of late, throwing a ton of interceptions and getting his arse beaten to a pulp by opposing defenses. Add to the equation the newly reborn offense of the Bills, and tonight's game becomes a full-tilt battle. Will the Jets regain their form or will they pack it in and call it a season? Catch the game tonight (8pm) and find out for yourself.

Check SpellingGET WELL BABY HUEY!

Just want to send well wishes to one of our own, BABY HUEY, our Wednesday night door man, who had to undergo emergency surgery the other day. He's recuperating in the hospital and on the road to recovery. The gang at Third and Long are pulling for a speedy recovery!

TONIGHT: "Thursday Night Football" featuring the NY Jets vs Buffalo (8pm); $20 Miller Lite/Coors Light buckets & $4 pints of Coors Light/Sam Adams (5-11pm). MGD 64 promo (10pm) featuring the Miller Genuine Draft 64 girls and plenty of giveaways!

OH SNAP!

Just when you thought that things would finally die down and things would get back to "normal" (whatever that is these days), TIGERGATE just gathered more steam. Now I know I previously wrote how everyone should just move on from this fiasco of a story and focus on more important things. But I'll be dammed if this thing hasn't turned into that full-blown car wreck that you just can't turn away from. Now it's turning into a clusterf*** of a situation for the PGA darling.

It seems that not ONE, but TWO more "mistresses" have come out of the closet to confess to having dalliances with Le Tigre. One in particular, a reality TV star, even claims to have a boatload of steamy text messages from him saved on her phone. Now how legit those text-messages are remains to be seen (let's face it, anyone could program "TIGER W" on their phone and say it was from him), however, whether it be true or not, this kind of publicity is the last thing he and his family needs right now. Stay tuned.

TREE LIGHTING tonight. To me, that signals the Christmas season's finally kicking off here in NYC. Of course, traffic will be a nightmare tonight with the actual lighting set to go off at around 9pm. Folks will begin to gather around Rockefeller Center, however, as early as 3pm to get a prime spot. Good luck with that.

I remember my first Tree Lighting back in '85; Went down there with my girlfriend at the time. I remember it was cold as hell (we're talking about 30 degrees) and we're crammed in with thousands of people for what seemed like forever. No access to bathrooms, hot chocolate, etc. If it wasn't for the fact that I was with this girl, I would have left hours earlier. But we stuck it out and after they finally lit the tree, I have to admit, it was cool. But I can also say that I haven't been back to a tree lighting since. Been there, done that.

PUB TRIVIA TONIGHT! For those of you who, like myself, are over the whole Tree Lighting thing, join us tonight for PUB TRIVIA! The game where you and your friends have an opportunity to win cool swag, drinks and the bragging rights of being top dawg in Pop Culture Land. It's free to play and the fun kicks off at around 8pm. Get there early as the prime spots tend to get snapped up quickly. $4 Mixed Well Drinks (for ladies) and $15 Miller High Life buckets are on tap for everyone!

TONIGHT'S THEME: It's a mystery theme. You gotta be in it to win it!

BEER OF THE MONTH: Bud Light Golden Wheat is on tap as December's Beer of the Month. Check it out at $4/pint!

24 SHOPPING DAYS 'TIL XMAS....

Today is December 1 and is it me or did 2009 go quickly? Damn, it feels like yesterday when we were celebrating BABY GIRL's New Year's Eve Pajama Party and now it's almost Christmas! Where did the time go? I'll have to go back to my calendar to highlight various events that took place over the year and get back to you on that (when you get to be my age, you have to refer to your notes for highlights). In the meantime, we can expect gridlock hell as everyone make their way into Manhattan for the Rockefeller Christmas Tree, the Menorah lighting, shop-till-you-drop excursions from Europe and all the like. Yay.

I guess the New Orleans Saints are the real deal, huh? You don't believe me? Just ask the New England Patriots. Going into last night's game, the Saints were averaging 36.9 points a game while the Patriots were averaging 29.0 points a game. Both teams boasted big-time quarterbacks (Brady and Brees) and plenty of offensive firepower. The Patriots were looked upon as the team to beat, due to their dynasty pedigree while the Saints, even with their undefeated record, still had something to prove. Well when it was all said and done, the Saints proved themselves without a doubt the team to beat, crushing the Pats, 38-17. Not even close. Question of the day: Will the New Orleans Saints stay undefeated? Stay tuned.

TIGERGATE. With all of the craziness of the economy, crime, Dubai, Afghanistan, Iraq, etc. swirling around us, why do we find ourselves obsessed with Tiger Woods and his current situation? Did he? Didn't He? Did she? Why? WHO CARES! Let's move on already!

As I mentioned before, today is December 1. That means that the Movember fund raising efforts came to an end yesterday and I have to say that I couldn't have been more pleased with the results. I met my personal fund-raising goal of $500.00; in fact, thanks to a last minute flurry of activity from the likes of JON CUSACK, NAPOLEON DYNAMITE and SHORT MICHELLE, I almost DOUBLED my goal, raising a grand total of $895.00! And our team, the MO VAUGHN's, raised over $11, 000.00! So once again, on behalf of my teammates and the Movember Foundation, THANK YOU!!! Next up: A long overdue shave!

TONIGHT: Dollar Draft Madness kicks off at 4pm, with $1 mugs of Bud/Bud Light and Bud Golden Wheat ALL NIGHT LONG! Hope to see you then!
