WEEKEND RECAP (long post)
As I sit here freezing my ass off (once again), I figure this is as good a time as any to catch up on the blog. It was a very busy weekend here at the bar, thanks to some crazy antics from various patrons and some great NFL playoff action.
FRIDAY: It wasn't one of the busiest nights as far as foot traffic goes, however, it didn't lack entertainment, that's for sure. It started out, oddly enough, in the afternoon, when I received a phone call from my day bartender. Apparently, a woman came into the bar and told him that there was someone passed out in front of my stoop. So he calls me with the message. So of course, I look out my window and sure enough, there's a guy passed out on his back, right at the bottom of the stairs. Not just any guy, mind you, but our old nemesis, MANHOLE COVER MAN.
So I'm looking at him, trying to see if the poor guy's breathing and wondering to myself, why didn't the lady call 9-1-1? So, I call 9-1-1 and while I'm on the phone with the operator, I couldn't help but to notice everyone walking and driving by this person, not one stopping to offer assistance. I gotta admit, I was disturbed by it. By the time I'd finished my 9-1-1 call, the sirens were nearby and the FDNY had arrived to tend to our friend. Within minutes, he was on a stretcher, being carted off to the hospital. He was moving so I guess that was a good sign. It was pretty cold that afternoon so I was genuinely worried about him. At least he was going to get some warmth, for at least awhile. I should have known then it was going to be one of those days/nights.
The evening itself wasn't that spectacular, much of it due, no doubt to the brutally cold weather. We did get a visit from CHELSEA LATELY, as she stopped by with her girlfriends to celebrate her birthday. They blew in like a whirlwind and got the crowd going before making their way to the next bar.
We also got a visit from some of the girls from the CORNER BOYS crew. They stopped by with SEAN JEAN and some out of town visitors and ended up making the most of the night, hanging out until damn near last call.
Later in the night we saw a bit of excitement as a posse of police cars drove up 3rd Avenue (the opposite direction) and pulled in front of one of the other bars down the block. There was a huge brawl must have just taken place because there were cops everywhere and Jersey Shore types getting arrested left and right. I must have counted at least five guys getting cuffed. It was surreal. You had girlfriends trying to go after cops to get to their boyfriends, all dramatic stuff. Like I said, it was like watching MTV. For a second, I thought I saw SNOOKI getting mushed (again). Crazy stuff.
SATURDAY brought NY Jet fans from all over to the bar to catch their Gang Green in action against Cincinnati in the first round of the NFL Playoffs. Cincinnati was favored to win the return matchup, but most Jet fans were cautiously optimistic.
The place filled up quickly and Jet fans, taking full advantage of the $2 mug special, were up to the task to cheer their team on to victory. The game itself was surprisingly competitive and the Jets took it to their opponent, leaving the field with an improbable victory and a chance to move to the next round of the playoffs. Much to the delight of Jet fans everywhere.
The follow-up game found the Dallas Cowboys DESTROYING the Philadelphia Eagles, much to the astonishment of Eagle fans in attendance. For a game that had the makings of being a closely fought battle, someone must have forgotten to tell the Eagles that, as they looked like they didn't want to be there. Ouch.
SUNDAY was the first BREW CREW Sunday without the Dolphins fans and it was pretty laid back. The regulars didn't seem to mind having the bar back to themselves, and took full advantage of it. The playoff games continued to produce upsets and exciting moments and it helped make for yet another enjoyable afternoon.
Had some folks in late night from the NHL, in to throw back a few beers and of course, talk hockey, which (to me anyways) always enjoyable. Aside from that, your typical Sunday night: small groups, couples and the occasional rambler.
There are, as always, plenty of photos of the weekend's events posted on our FACEBOOK page, so take a moment to check them out.
Next weekend's playoff schedule is as follows:
SATURDAY, JAN 16: Arizona vs New Orleans (4:30pm), followed by Indianapolis vs Baltimore (8pm).
SUNDAY, JAN 17: Dallas vs Minnesota (1pm), followed by NY Jets vs San Diego (4:30pm). Expect a visit by the Coors Light girls, stocked with great giveaways! It's also MLK Weekend, so I anticipate a late night (hopefully a celebratory night) as many 0f you will be off on that Monday.
TONIGHT: MUG NIGHT MONDAYS featuring $2 domestic draft mugs OR $1 Bud/Bud Light/Coors Light mugs, ALL NIGHT LONG! Play some BEER BINGO for a chance at some cool prizes and free beers! Free to play!
That's It. That's All I Got.

I swear you put that "long post" label up there just to make yourself feel better.
I won't feel better for a long time after that effed-up Packer game. Effin effer.
