My Visit to MILE END in BROOKLYN

I found myself enjoying a rare Sunday off so I took advantage of it by making a rare trek to Brooklyn. Why would I do such a thing considering my disdain for the borough? Sheer curiosity for a recently-opened Montreal-style Jewish deli called MILE END.

Montreal is known for a lot of things, most notably it's famous "smoked meat" (brisket) sandwiches, and MILE END attempts to bring the delicacy here to Brooklyn.

After initially getting lost en route to MILE END, I finally locate the place and just in time. The place itself isn't very big. There's a few tables but if it seats more than 20 people, that's pushing it. There's also some counter seating which allows you to see the staff preparing their culinary delights right in front of you. I was lucky enough to score the last seat by the door, which turned out to be a pain in the ass. Not only do you deal with the cold air from the door opening/closing; you also have to deal with the crush of folks waiting in line for to-go orders and seating (like I said, the place isn't very big).

However, the food is the main thing here and this place delivers big time.

The place even serves up a mean cup of coffee (STUMPTOWN Coffee Company)!

So despite all of the adventures and mishaps that I went through in finding this place (thanks to FRENCHY for providing the correct address, btw), it was well worth the trip as I was able to secure the famous sandwich and bring some back for some of the gang back at the bar.

Good stuff indeed!

Don't take my word for it; check out MILE END and see for yourself. Anything that causes me to leave Manhattan can't be too bad, eh?

That's It. That's All I Got.

There are too many places in Manhattan to get excellent brisket, pastrami and corned beef to make a trek to the BK for this.

The BK does have some things not easily found in Manhattan, but brisket isn't one of them.

That's a tasty looking sandwich. I had a ruben on Saturday that looked almost like that.
