Follow the daily interactions of an affable bar manager of pretty cool and not-so-typical watering hole in NYC, in a not-so-typical neighborhood, Murray Hill. There may be some blurbs overheard at the bar, stimulating observations and random thoughts on random things. So be careful, you never know what might end up here....Enjoy and welcome to my world!

A WORLD CAPTIVATED...
As the Vancouver Winter Olympics continues, the one sport that finds a way to fascinate everyone watching is curling. The unique spectator sport looks a lot like shuffleboard on ice, but it's a sport that no one ever talks about until the Winter Olympics come around and then it's on everyone's lips. Folks make jokes about the sport, question the athletic aspect of the sport, yet once it's on, you can't take your eyes from it.
Yesterday's opening rounds of the men's and women's curling spurred a lot of talk at the bar. Debates over the actual rules of the sport, comparisons of the various hotties on the women's teams and whether or not curling should actually be considered a sport dominated the conversations (As a courtesy to the public reading this blog, I came across a pretty informative video link on ESPN which explains the sport and the rules/scoring aspects in very simple terms).
In any case, to prove my point regarding the popularity of curling here's a quick story: After running around taking care of errands, I stopped by the JOSHUA TREE for a quick bite. I sat at the bar with my newspaper and requested the Women's Curling on the TV. I was the only one in the front of the house and there was a group of about ten sitting at a table in the back of the bar. I didn't pay attention to them at first as they were dressed in business suits. I just assumed they were having a business lunch.
While I was eating and watching the curling, all of a sudden the table of suits erupted in loud cheers and clapping. I turned my head to see what the fuss was about and sure enough, the group had been watching the curling as well and were cheering on the German team. Go figure.
If that doesn't prove the popularity of the sport, I don't know what does.
In any case, if you haven't had an opportunity to check out this unique sport, make sure you do so. It's great to watch and I tell ya, many of the ladies of the sport are pretty hot, albeit not in the "Sports Illustrated Swimsuit" kinda way.

Pretty fucking weird. I had just finished Googling "womens curling photos" and then popped over to your site to comment on your pre-Olympics want to watch women's curling. I could definitely "slide" up to a number of those female curlers.
B to the...
Germany's Melanie Robillard (actually a Canadian) was looking pretty good today.
